Here's one for ya!

Post by dasboot1960 »

Well HELL!.I may have just figured it out, but I'll post it anyway. I'm IJ early war. Unescorted AP at Wake, too big to dock, loading out the Wake invasions force...up sails USS Trout, and a Mk14 torpedo works. AP heavily damaged and forced into escort taskforce. Now my turn; no mission change allowed, can't dock, can't disband, can't unload, cancel load, etc., from the TF screen. (I login to start this post). Decide to go back and look one last time before whining... Turns out the 'adjust load troops only' button is active. From there I was able to change status to 'unloading'. Here's hoping it works. I also noticed 'scuttling' is not in the game manual index, and didn't see a reference in a content skim. I know there are beatings in Imperial hell for me for being such a slob. Anything else? Most important, and I'm sure there's a way, I seem to remember reading it. How does one scuttle a ship? Goodness I hope those troops unload before she explodes or another Mk14 works...

Scuttling is clearly explained in the manual.

Send the ship to sea to avoid the sub...move an escort or three to join her. Why give away vps?

In the Victory Conditions part of the manual it states that if a ship is scuttled, it will score 10% less than its standard VPs.

If I'm reading that right it doesn't sound like scuttling saves you much in victory points. Might as well see if the AP can limp home.

Was the destination still Wake but it showed cargo "idle" and wouldn't allow unload?

Even if the ship has serious damage, you might not be able to scuttle if troops are still aboard. But damage and fires have a way of making the troops be "not aboard" after a while ... Those Arctic waters are cool and refreshing!

Another ship in TF can help fighting fires, and save some troops. Also, can get fuel from AP. No reason to waste that, if she is going down.

Make another amphib TF even if it is only one loaded ship, set it to unload, switch that to an escort TF, add the damaged AP into it, transfer the other ship out, add any escorts that you can to help fight the fires. Set this new escort TF to cruise speed.

Yes, if you switch one TF to an escort, they will unload unless you have already selected the do not unload option.

OK, nitpicking here a bit, but the IJN hasn't any AP's. They're all xAP's.
