42 MA i12 (cont):
Bad weather sees the Red Army move a few units around, China puts a 4 defense INF into Chengtu. Turn ends on a 5 roll.

No partisans.

US picks 1 chit v GE, 1 v JP and finally is able to pass war appropriations - moving 1 chit to tension vs GE/IT.
Huzzah.
Believe it or not, M/A '42 is supposed to be the "average" turn the US passes the War Appropriations bill It always feels late to me, but that is what I have heard. I have seen the US pass WA much earlier, but never much later, so I, personally am not at all sure of that average statement.

That's right. If you have an Axis player who really plays not to upset US entry, it can even happen that the bill gets passed half a year later.
If the Euroaxis only take Denmark and Poland during 1939 and the Japanese decide on a Sitzkrieg in China, it is possible to delay US entry quite good with all the low value chits drawn in 1940. Personally, I don't like that strategy. I like to get a shot at conquering China and taking out the Low Countries (and perhaps France, I've seen it happen) in 1939. But that means high value chits drawn for the US...

Our opponents are good players and they perform sneaky attacks. In our last game I learned it hard way when they sailed ATR and PARA from Italy Cyprus and same impulse paradropped to Palestine.

Late in last turn they railed MOT and MECH to La Spezia, I knew something is coming. But I didn't pay enough attention to that and played naval impulse as planned. When turn ended I checked situation in Egypt. I believe they planned to sail MOT and MECH to Bardia in Africa and sail task force to box 4 for shore bombardment. Land units could attack Alexandria same impulse, only one INF defending there. This attack would have been 16:5 + 16 shore bombardment + possibly planes.

Lucky us to win initiative...

I might be wrong and you are about to see something else [:)]

No, you are not wrong. Our primary idea was to attack Alexandria directly, on the first impulse, if we won the initiative. Our preliminary count got it to a +15 assault on Alexandria. Alas, now that surprise campaign on Suez will never be. [:)]

Landing air Egypt was a bit of a tell, but we gambled on winning the initiative. It was fairly likely that we would do so.

I realized it after looking the map right after turn ended. Plane to Africa confirmed it. But without last game I probably would have not seen it coming.

Wise people learn from other people’s mistakes, stupid don’t learn even from own mistakes. I consider myself average. And lucky, it was all about initiative and Axis had +2.

And the port strikes ends with an expected 1-10 split in favour of CW. I expect an avoid combat, and will continue on that premise. I will go back if I was in error.

The German U-boat finds, and aborts the Allied CP. Axis rolled 1 while Allies rolled 3. The 4 surprise points was enough to make it an submarine combat.

The German SUB decline further combat.

I aborted the CP to Scapa Flow. I can change it if need be.

The German U-boat finds and sink 1 CP. (Axis 4, Allies 5)

Axis has 5 surprise points and spend 2 of them defensively to eliminate the abort, and the remaining two points to increase the A to one sunk CP.

Germany remain in the sea area.

Will CW stay for another round?

The SUB finds a second time. (Axis 4, Allies 1)

Axis selects SUB combat. The SUB suffers an abort (1 rolled) while the CW CP is aborted automatically.

To what port will the CP abort. (Note that a Italian SUB can intercept in CSV)
