US Navy gets some Buffalos and Wildcats with cameras and you should get some long range recon in the 2nd half of 42 [:)]
RE: Hell Hath Frozen Over (Scout1 (J) vs Lowpe (A)
You get good recon aircraft in the F-5 and F-7. There is also a recon version of the PB4Y.ORIGINAL: Lowpe
Just perused Allied bombers thru early 43.
A NZ plane has radar, none have cameras, and the Navy liberator has radar and the night time British bomber.
Ouch.[:(] I was hoping for some cameras, especially among the Americans.
There is a camera on the Wildcat F4F-3P. Cats carry a camera, but not a dedicated recon stereoscopic one.

The Naval Strike range must be 0 for the bombers not to fly a strike in the am.
Only if there is a target.[;)]
Too true. But if you are bombing Rabaul from Port Moresby, there is a good chance of having a naval target.

Beasts: I have never been a fan on using these guys in endless ground bombing campaigns. I always appreciated having my ground pounders bombed into the dark ages with these guys, because I figured there where worse (or better depending upon pov) targets or occupations for them.
B17D -- no tail gun, it is easier for Zeroes to shoot down. Even have shot them down with Oscar Ic. No replacements. Long range which seems very useful. Very few runways for them.
B17E -- comes with the new year. Shorter range than the D but tougher.
Skipping F, for B24 in July of 1942. Scary plane. Can't wait to unleash them. B24s on Tabitueau often makes the Marshall's easy pickings.

I think that later on there is a recon version of the B-24.

Cats with cameras! I wonder what other goodies the Allied patrols have in them? Thanks.
Oooh, Dutch Cats have ASB radar. [:)] I don't see any cameras though anywhere in patrols. Early radar so that is a good thing...but I would have like camera's too. I wonder what floatplanes have in them.
I like the zeppelins. [:)] Probably need an AKV to move them around they are so important. [;)]
RE: Hell Hath Frozen Over (Scout1 (J) vs Lowpe (A)
This looks downright scary, only 14 Kingfishers a month![X(]
I am guessing the Allies don't lose on the order of 3,000 of them like Japan does of the Jake from egregious oversizing float plane squadrons. I think that probably 2000 of those losses are simply VP gifts to the Allies.[:)]

after a few cruisers/ BBs losses you suddenly don't need too many FPs any longer
most of my land based FPs are on training duty; there are enough Cats for doing naval search and ASW

If I remember correctly, the Seagull production line had to be restarted because there weren't enough.

When I played Obvert he used them endlessly on 1000 foot naval attack runs.
RE: Hell Hath Frozen Over (Scout1 (J) vs Lowpe (A)
There is no allied equivalent of the Jake. The Catalina fills that role (but of course can’t be used from a ship). The FP squadrons you get in LA are great for training or ASW though.
Haven’t done much naval strike with FP (range) or Catalina (tight on airframes for most of 42).
Tight on airframes is a great way to describe 1942 for the Allies, actually.

Since this is Lowpe's first outing as the Alliess, I will mention that USN fighter pilot training is an issue (not enough training squadrons) later in the war so many players use the FPs on the West Coast to train them.ORIGINAL: scondon87

If he loses the starting carriers and buys back the air units, he will then have training squadrons . . . [8|]

Just a thought, but you get so many CVEs that you can probably resize a few of their fighter wings to max and then replace them with marine squadrons. You can then use these resized squadrons for training.

You also get the 24 plane VR squadrons.

It all comes later in the war. Deficit of training places for USN is acute throughout 1942, and FPs are dearly needed thereORIGINAL: Anachro

RE: Hell Hath Frozen Over (Scout1 (J) vs Lowpe (A)
Are VR squadrons the plane reinforcement squadrons on CVE carriers?

So that is the reason most AFBs are so intent on losing so many ships early on. [;)]

Heck, in my game with Obvert I was fielding 40 skill fighter pilots. I am sure I will feel like I am swimming in pilots...
