Regarding the icon, and wav..

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Regarding the icon, and wav..

Post by Lukke »

I'm just wondering, why is there atleast one(?) Nazi soldier on the icon to the game?
Of course portraying a soldier doesn't show any allegiance but I suppose not everyone would like that on their desktop? A tank of some kind would be a lot better as the standard icon, I think. :)

Furthermore I have to ask, why is that "Sieg heil"wavfile playing on the frontpage to the spwaw-section? (http://www.matrixgames.com/games/sp-wor ... /index.asp)

Other than that, It's a great game thanks!

The german soldier , like the roman centurion , gives off the image of a tough , professional soldier. Most of the german wehrmacht troops were just ordinary young men like most soldiers are today , that fought thru some of the most horrendous conditions ever known.Am I preaching? SORRY.
GOOD HUNTING!

Sorry if I'm going into something already discussed all too much, I couldn't find any search feature for the forum so I couldn't check.

In the latest download (the first one for me)the Swastika is in the game without patching, but that's fine by me, It was the natural flag for the germans for that time as far as I know, and I don't think anyone could label the game as Nazi-propaganda because of that.

However having the icon portraying a Nazi-soldier, and having Hitlers speech on the frontpage is a little different, and feels more condoning.

As for Hitlers speech being defining and important for the war, of course I believe that too, but i also feel that Steel Panthers should deal with the battles and not as much the politics.

Anyways, I won't ponder this anymore, and anyone would have to look rather close to see the SS on the helmet anyways.. ;))

I never believed Matrixgames had any positive views on National Socialism, I just thought some things felt a little odd..

-Edited due to Oggies reply:
Yes I hold nothing against the german soldiers, they fought for what they believed was right and wasn't different from any other soldiers. So it's not as much the german solider as the Nazi signatures residing on my desktop that made me ask.

Maybe instead of Hitler's speech, we could have George C. Scott delivering the opening speech from "Patton"?

Lukke I apologize I guess you could remove the swastika from the game with the other file.(I truly do not remember) I removed my posts with the erroneous information. There is a way to do it as our German players had to remove them to be allowed to play the game.

sorry for the error,

Hi Guys

The German on the front was picked by our graphic guy at the time. Its an old war poster. The speech was used because one it is translated into English and was the speech given the day war broke out..... and that is what the game is about. No hidden messages... we love history and gaming.... we will not candy coat or hide anything done by any side in any war. This is not to make you forget but REMEMBER what it must have been like to live in that time.

Ah now I got it, Sven. There is a patch file that removes the swastika, it's not removed automatically..

Is that because the symbol itself is outlawed in Germany?
