Now, now folks. Calm down. Scout has been on these forums for quite awhile, as in I have seen his name pop up before for years. No need to so aggressively cast him as a bad guy or unreliable; wait to see how he does over the next few weeks. I'm sure he is feeling nervous and like he bit off more than he can chew (maybe only realized Lowpe would be a monster after he accepted the game). I'm also thinking he wants to give Lowpe a good game and wants the first week of turns to go as well as possible, which could account for his indecision and delay.

See how the first few turns go before deciding anything, even if they take while to get or complete. Remember if it works out this game will last years, well in the case of 2-day turns, at least a year.

Well, I replied to his email with my concerns (that I am super concerned) also letting him know I had advertised for a new game on the board.

We shall see what he says, been an hour or two and no reply. I always give 24 hours for emails to get thru though.

Realistically speaking you need a daily commitment of between a half hour to an hour to play this game. We obligated to 5 turns a week minimum, and two of those five might very well fall on the weekend one assumes or maybe Friday is date night or something.

This is just so discouraging.

Well, I just got another promise for the turn on Friday....

I thought that today is Tuesday . . . [&:]

Hard to understand to be honest. He promised me a turn Saturday. Then changed it to Sunday. Sunday afternoon I get an email saying he is bad with deadlines and spent 3-4 hours on the turn already and asking me to bear with him as he is working thru Japan. I fully expected to get the turn Sunday near midnight...

2 emails of mine later he respond just recently (Tuesday) that he has finished Japan and will get me the turn by Friday or earlier no matter what as he wants to do his primary invasions and test things.

This just encapsulates perfectly what I have said on a few occasions now.

Now he claims he has finished Japan but he won't send the turn for another 3 days. Just how long does it take to process a turn even if using hampsters running on the treadmill to provide the power to light up the vacuum tubes and Thing to move the counters? Certainly not 3 days. Using the most antiquated computer which can run this game the first turn resolution will take less than hour.

No, you are being strung along. If he really meant what he said, between informing you, and you now informing the forum, the first turn could have been run for his "testing" and actually delivered to your inbox by now.

What he is really telling you is that he has to run another test (of which he has already obviously run several) and if he doesn't like that result, he will tweak his orders and run another test until he gets perfection. This MO will apply to turn 2, then turn 3, then turn 4 ad infinitum for the fact is that with 2 day turns there is greater uncertainty as to outcomes than when it is 1 day turns. You won't be getting your minimum 5 turns per week as reuested in the Opponents Wanted sub-forum.

There is an old Spanish saying which I very much like. Translated it says: "he who makes himself of sugar, gets eaten by flies."

Just dump him. Let the flies feast on another sugar cube.

Maybe it might be good to be upfront with him as to whether he is feeling pressure and might be more interested in playing a more low-key opponent, that way you both can free yourself from this pressure now and look for other opponents more suited to both your needs. I feel like this is equitable while allowing each to keep his head somewhat high. At the moment, I feel like some of us here are in danger of shaming him off the forum.

I have, but have heard no response to that line of thought.

More in the line of irl problems rearing up, than in playing against me. I am not that good. I get crushed, and crushed again routinely.[:)]

My thoughts are a lot like what you have expressed Anachro, but we are making zero progress. Hard to have a game with zero progress.

I have literally started pbem games as Japan with 5 minutes of orders entered on the preturn. Granted that is extreme...but the preturn isn't that important in the overall scheme of things.

So, if we continue to post in the thread we can be part of the longest AAR thread with no turns.

Maybe he needs a coach like with Greyjoy. But then you would be playing against the coach via a proxy.

I'll join in and play a part of the longest AAR without an actual combat turn.

Where is Dan with a picture of a tree when you need him?

I haven't seen Dan in a bit, but here is what the forests in my area look like:

I recently mixed up the words 'jacuzzi' and 'yakuza'. Now I'm in hot water with the Japanese.

My one short venture into PBEM territory was playing an early version of Focus Pacific against Lowpe. Let's just say I don't put much stock in the self-deprecation coming from Lowpe. He knows this game.

That was clear from the things he was examining to get ready as Allies, and the unconventional strategies he is considering.

Then why did he send Stalin rotten sushi? Or did he just want a different game? [&:]
