Motorized Corps' in 41

Post by DanishPosh »

Hey WIRsterz

In Possum 6, the Axis have 4 extra Motorized Corps consisting og 1 Romanian, 1 Hungarian, 1 Italian and 1 Finnish.
Taking a look at them the Romanian Cavalry Corps seems too weak for effective offensive operation, but the other three looks like they can be used.

The Romanian Corps however, can be reinforced with 2nd Lt. Pz Bn from the III Rum Korps and with 7th Rum Cavalry Div from XI Rum Korps and with 9th Rum Cavalry Div from I Rum Korps.
This would bump the I Cav. Rum Motorized Corps to 4 cavalry Div and one Pz Bn (cv 43). Enough to make it a weapon in the 41 summer campaign.

The weakest Corps is the Mobile Hun Motorized Corps comprising of 1st Hun Motorized Div and 1st Hun Cavalry Div. (cv 32).

Then there's the Expeditionary Italian Motorized Corps, comprising of Torino It Motorized Div, Pasubio It Motorized Div and P.A.D.A it Cavalry Div with artillery (cv 52).

Lastly there's the Gr. "O" Fin Motorized Corps, comprising of the 1st Fin Cavalry Div and 2 Ski Mountain Div's. I don't know if the Ski Div's can plot 5 hexes without losing readiness, so I would remove them and instead reinforce it with the 1st Fin Panzer Bn from the Reserve Fin Corps and the 40th and 211th Panzer Bn's from the XXXVI Mtn Korps. This puts the Gr. "O" to a cv of 34.

This puts the Axis Blitz to 12 Panzer Corps and 4 Motorized Corps who all have the abilty to plot 5 hexes (10 Panzer Corps at the front, 1 starting near Berlin and 1 can be created from the 22nd and 23 Panzer Divs in O.K.W.).
Although the Germans have the option of creating up to 16 panzer Corps, there would not be any units to put in the last 4.

So, on to my question (phew):
Does anybody consider these 4 addtional Motorized Corps usable in the Blitz of 41?

Also consider the stacking points. A Motorized Corps can hold 9 stacking points. A Motorized Div only costs 1 point, same goes for a Cavalry Div. A Panzer Bn costs 0 points. This means the Motorized Corps can be build into quite heavy units once more motorized Divs get available.

Also is it against the house rules to replace the Italian Motorized Divs with regular Divs in the Italian Front?

Actually the Romanian Motorized Corps can also get the 1st Rum Panzer Div and a Cavalry Div from the German XI Korps (11th Army).
That rockets the Corps' cv to 76.
1 Panzer div = 3 points
5 Cavalry Div = 5 points
1 Panzer Bn = 0 points
So 8 stacking points in all which is fine.

AFAIK, it's only against house rules to replace German divisions at the other fronts with those of their allies. It may however reduce the strength of those HQ's enough to trigger a shatter and enemy invasion. I've never tried it, and have no plans to do so.

I don't play the Possum scenarios. I prefer 3.2. What I usually do is intergrate Rumanian, Italian, and Hungarian panzer and motorized units into German Corps with German divisions. It's a great way to raise their experience without them suffering too heavy losses or being too weak to accomplish anything.

By adding together the 22nd PzDiv, Rumanian PzDiv, And one of those Italian Motorized Divs with some supporting units gives you a unit of about CV 78.

You can take all the Italian Infantry Divs from the 2nd Italian Army (approx. 600 Strenght Points) and replace them with one It Motorized Div (400 points) or one It Panzer Div (800 points). This would strenghten the It Expeditionary Corps significantly.

Also, I wouldnt use these 4 Motorized Corps as breakthrough units. They are better used as exploiters.
They should follow the German Panzer Korps when they break through the front.

I just tried the Deal with the Italians and you get the Expeditionary force up to cv 97, while only lowering the Italian front from 2700 to 2535.
I moved the Ariete Panzer Div out and replaced it with the Cosseria, Ravenna, Sforzesca and Alpini Divs.

So now we have the Italian Motorized at cv 97 and the Romanian at cv 76.
The Hungarian will have to wait for reinforcements arriving in turn 30 which will boost them to cv 54.
Not bad at all.
