Another fine mess

Post by eheiser »

Playing in a multiplayer game (1.04v) and got a hunter culture to join my happy democracy. Problem is their village (private assets hunting lodge and transport 1) is very far away across mountains and cloud forests. I can't connect them with a dirt road for years at my current industrial output. Looks like a real need for a second SHQ in the village but I need a public facility to create the zone and they have no resources except water and hunted food and I have no means to send them anything like metal or fuel. I could purchase one of the private assets but am concerned doing that will disrupt the distribution of food they have going now (public transport will require fuel). Their leader became the governor, so I gave them some funding for the economy and left them unincorporated (although their happiness is at 100) until I figure something out. Suggestions?

Eric,
You must have missed my diatribe on a very similar "disaster":

I'm still not completely out of this mess (but I didn't have rain forests to get through!).
Not sure what I'd do in your situation... ;)

Suggestions?

1) Learn a lesson :) You shouldn't "no-brain" conqueror OR annexing territories that you can't protect / supply.
2) Trade. So you could nationalize one asset and buy fuel, for example.

Do not do stupid things and complain about the consequences, please.

I pointed out to Vic that the different Logistics mechanics for Minors and AI Majors could cause issues. We have to see when he gets around to fixing it. And how he will get around to fixing it.

Not complaining. I like that the game presents challenges. I'm an operator not an engineer so I like to drive the game not calculate each step before making a move. Besides, I'd never used that card before and here was an opportunity. Just thought that someone could save me a misstep. I will privatize an asset, create the zone and second SHQ and see how that goes. I hadn't thought about the trading. That should work although money is tight.

Wow Mark R. I read the post on your situation and it is just what I needed to hear. Funny the same thing happens twice in the same game. I might have not tried the annexation if I wasn't freaking out because of you attaining a third zone!

Comon' guys - we're all learning a difficult game here... gently let us know we made bonehead moves. No need to be condescending - we're just novices after all! [;)]

Typically I'm the "engineer" type player, not an "operator" as you say. But, alas, for this game I tried so hard to study and understand everything before playing, but found the task nearly impossible and I would never finish studying and actually play. So I forced myself to operator mode and am just blundering along learning as I go. It's been a great time - plenty of mistakes to go around, but slowly how the game parts fit together is becoming clearer.

Yes, this threw me off for a while. I knew AI used different rules, but the huge difference in logistics messed me up for a while. I never thought it would be so dramatic and caused me to make ill-informed assumptions.

It would be nice if it is possible to fix someday.

Almost same. Well, technically I once saw losses from hunger in my unit and after it I'd panicked & saved remaining guys. Since it I rarely have hungry units (usually only when AI suddenly have flash of brightness to cut my supply[:D]). But I never lost whole units to starvation.

Mark. I’ve been sending messages in game through the strategic map “message” feature to all participants but haven’t heard back from anybody. Is this feature working? Same feature is in Advanced Tactics so I assumed it would be functional.

Hmmm... I remember seeing that feature a while back, but have forgotten about it since. I'll check.

edit:
I see how to send a message but can't find where one might be received. In addition, the manual seems silent on the issue beyond mentioning you can send a message.

So, not sure... [&:]

I'll make a new post about it. If it doesn't work, Vic should remove the button. Here I've been writing tomes to you guys and it's disappearing into the ether.[8|]

This is interesting.
In our game I have access to some data per the 'Blackspace' (major regime) & not the other majors, except for a few 'minors'.
This is via the 'Rep' & 'Regimes' tabs.
Also, per in-game messaging...where is that button?
I was not aware of that feature.

Is it via the 'Open Contact' cards?
