or i might have been foolish enough to offer. Yikes.

I have not done anything special or noteworthy yet.

Maybe sending the RN destroyers to Formosa and then Wenchow...but that is so minor.

Rufe's at the start of the game? I would love to have them as IJ at the time.

Not to be too critical, but it seems your opponent is taking unnecessary loses. I know its harder when playing someone 'live', but I hope when and if I do, I do better.

You are not wrong, Rusty.

A lot of times a player plays off their own expectations and projects it.

It should have been evident in how I treated Force Z and the RN destroyers, and where Houston was attacked that I would not pull a Sir Robyn. Then, I even told him I wasn't retreating in the other thread.

Japan is hanging out way too long at invasion beaches with shipping without having complete sea and air control. Just can't do that....and you are still vulnerable to subs and sub dropped mines.

I haven't looked up the Qship that those Rufes undoubtedly were on, in Ironman they would have had some kind of naval attack plane too, plus a larger compliment.

That Q-ship would love to get into a large convoy of unescorted merchants and launch a surprise attack at close range . . . [:D]

I know that you have been very helpful to me.

If I have been thank you, but its only because of those that have come before and taught me.

Yes, a trap too easy to fall into.

Dec 13 & 14

Marblehead and destroyers miss the IJN fleets along the coast, but Tromp does find them and lets them escape.

The Deathstar escapes from the KB...who has gone dark. Cats at Wake Island & Midway report nothing in the vicinity.

I-1 nails two small aks (transmarine) in the Pacific...and I foolishly left Rochambeau on flank...she is torpedoed off Balikpapen and tries for a two day full speed run to Soerabaja and sinks.

In other mistakes, I got Penguin to New Guinea, and then forgot about her and she steamed very close to Truk and was sunk by air power.

Another 1k supply unloads on mainland China by xakl, Hong Kong beats off the first attack (1-2) but forts are lowered by 1.

22K supply less than a day away from Singers, and the reinforcement of Palembang and Singapore is going well.

Pretty much avoid all air entanglements and get some training in and some repairs.

We need to defend Rangoon as troop and supply ships arrive. Ok with losing some supply ships, but I would like the troops to arrive without losses other than plane losses.

Japan lands at Tulagi deep in the Solomons. An Australian SAG is hiding to the north, and will sortie with good intel (I have 3-4 such ploys going on, but the Australian SAG is the most powerful). If the KB heads here it could be risky.

Interesting is his use of the Babs. Suggests to me it is being used sub optimally.

China

Going ok I think...reinforcements selectively turned on for some Base Forces which is the primary source of AA, and most US TOE Corps, will probably pick a few more elite units to get them although a lot of devices like artillery are stockpiled.

Correct. [;)] The entire report screams sub-optimal use.

I think I will buy out the III Indian HQc today and get them to Palembang while I can do it in relative safety.

I see so much opportunity here. I need 2 more days to get things established.

Obviously, Soerabaja is the closest yard, but I don't really feel safe using it. I have an AR or two hiding somewhere, and I will have Houston meet up with them in some god forsaken base and pump out the counterflooding before continuing to Australia and major repairs.

If you look close at the map, you can see several dot bases with ships in port. Makes you wonder.

Hi Alfred, could expound on that just a little further. I don't see anything evident but i would like to learn more from the experts.

Even just a few days at Sumatra with air cover and naval support would work wonders for Houston. Then either Sydney, Columbo, or Cape Town.

Maybe build up the airfield in the base behind Palembang so it can't be bombarded from the sea. That would also be a nice place for the HQ if Palembang gets crowded. A good place for torpedo bombers set at range one, at 1,000 or even 100 foot altitude. Pull some of the Malaya HQ there as well, in case you lose Singapore fast as it will reform there and give its HQ additions to Palembang defenses. Although encouraging bombardments at Palembang can destroy the oil and refineries there.

Don't forget to have bombers ready to fly city attacks for the night or day after he captures a base with oil.

If you want, you can use the Chinese DC-2s to airlift the Cavite Base unit closer to getting out of China, safer for it as well. You can split the DC-2 unit into thirds to rescue some of the Hong Kong defenders to reform those units in India as well.

Nice ideas...but:

Iboats are probably off Soerabaja.

I suspect Palembang isn't going to be amphibiously invaded. But I hope he tries. [;)] Can't hold that base behind Palembang so I don't want to build it up. Maybe that will change.

Not spending pp to buy out restricted remnants.[:)]

Right now there is absolutely no hurry in flying the Cavite Base force out with DC2s. I don't want to subject the planes to op losses needlessly. If the situation changes, then maybe, but till then it is the shoe leather express.

Bombing oil centers the day after they are taken...if I can. Not building my bomber usage around that idea at this point in time.

Well, Alfred identified the unit. Babs. What is different about Babs from all the other Japanese losses that could suggest sub-optimal usage?

This also goes to Rusty's point that Japan is needlessly suffering losses.

so were you a teacher or professor?

i see the flak losses. I lose a lot of babs to ops and some to fighters if not careful but i don't think i ever lost them to flak.

Thanks

Malaya HQ is ABDA and so are the Hong Kong units. Any Malaya HQ units, including the HQ, should be able to be flown to the DEI. I do believe that the Hong Kong units should be able to be flown into China. Once the main part is destroyed, buying out the unit is a lot cheaper.

Shoe leather express? Is that the LPC? LPC => Leather Personnel Carrier.
