Interesting is his use of the Babs. Suggests to me it is being used sub optimally.

Alfred
Hi Alfred, could expound on that just a little further. I don't see anything evident but i would like to learn more from the experts.

Four turns (really only 3) into the war and Japan has already lost 5 Babs. The Babs is a Recon aircraft. With proper handling both flak and operational losses should be minimal.

1. At the start of the war it equips IJA recon units which are situated in areas where Allied flak is weak.

2. With its maximum altitude, it should be able to fly above almost whatever Allied flak it is going to encounter in December 1941.

3. Losing 1 per turn as an operational loss suggests he is flying all of them at extended distance. That should be largely unnecessary. Japan does not need long range intel of Chinese movements at this stage of the war. There are enough targets within normal range to occupy the Babs units. Those units not close enough should be training recon pilots for the units flying the much more capable Dinah.

This loss rate is unsupportable. Recon aircraft can be intercepted by enemy aircraft and flak but their loss rates to these causes should be very, very low. Operational losses should dominate but closer to 2-3 per month.

I don't think that the Malaya HQ returns as it has withdrawl date if I remember correctly, the same with the Burma Corps.

They both have withdraws.

The problem I have with flying out splinters to buy back at greatly reduced PP is that I think an exploit. In addition, I wouldn't want to fly out the splinter till the last minute, and in the case of Singers, the Japanese should be LRCAP it which means plane losses.

And finally, the benefit to game play is small. I have one command HQ in the area...and plenty of smaller HQs to keep it occupied so to speak.

It is funny, I don't have a problem saving splinters or more when playing Japan defensively...especially if I can evacuate by sea or fast transport. Of course those are all unrestricted commands.

I am just strange.[:)]

(rather sheepishly)

Yes.

When I first read you post I thought you were alluding that Lowpe reguarly performing a Lazurus, hence his name should now be associated with coming back from the dead.

Now I see your post had a second meaning too. The resurrection and that I had addressed the observation to the wrong person.

I suppose my only defense is that I'm participating in a giant maskirovka. Yeah that sounds like my get out of gaol card.

So Alfred was caught in a mistake, error, or whatever that an individual wants to call it. It just proves that he is human. More important is that he admitted it. [;)]

I don't worry about typos or misspelling because for some English is not their first language. Even if it is, they still might have trouble with it.

Unless it changes the meaning or I can have fun with the error. [:D]

Every turn that goes by, I realize there are neglected task forces. I suspect this problem will grow, as the Allies just get so many units.

It is a long war, so I am not too concerned about having something idle in safe areas, but I was a little disappointed in forgetting Penguin this turn. Sure, she is less than 5 vp, but it is the concept...I had gotten her to safety, and almost never do that. Rochambeau is another that irks.

In India I have consolidated all the engineering units at Calcutta, and rejoined them. We will build up Ledo first to size 5, to house the B17s, before moving on to other bases which will see Forts before expanding runways or ports.

I have bought out 1 b17 squadron, and will probably buy out one more from Philippines with the next turn.

Offensive actions:

Ground Attack at Foochow
Bombing Ichang
Nothing exciting ship wise...need to refuel and rearm...should have something this next turn
Big Cap Trap again, should work as this will be my third in the game and I usually go about 1 for 3

Boise, RN Destroyers and Deathstar are trying to make good their escapes
Everything is steaming to Wake, Midway, Marcus...will be loading in 3-4 days for Marcus.
Decided to land base force and def art btln on Christmas Island Pacific Ocean

It just gets worse. I'm playing in '44 for the first time and there's...just. so. much. Hard to get a handle on all of it.

Burma increased by 10K supply, China holding steady at 180K. Over 110K at Singers now and 42K at Palembang.

Palembang 80+AV and growing very quickly, although most troops moving overland from Oosthaven. Dutch torpedo boats arrive in Palembang with this turn.

Japan will be in for a fight at Singers and Palembang.

Right now, everything is smoke and mirrors compared to Singers and Palembang.

Good work on Palembang

I wonder if your opponent is aware of how critical it is to be Japanese hands as soon as possible

I can't believe he's not got Singkawang or Kuching on the first turn to be honest

More reinforcements for Palembang/Singapore.

You may ask why am I sending armored cars to Palembang...and the answer is that in a hex that can be bombarded navally, tanks are targeted last or seldom targeted whether it is because they are tanks or smaller...Given the terrain, forts and relative immunity to naval bombardments they can really do well.

I hope to get some reinforcements to Singapore too...the route is from Palembang to Singers rather than by ship straight to Singers.

I have stripped almost all starting supply from Ceylon...

If you decide to leave some units to make a stand on Ceylon, Trincomalee has much better defensive terrain than Colombo. That more than makes up for the forts you might build at Colombo.
