How good is WIF?

World in Flames is the computer version of Australian Design Group classic board game. World In Flames is a highly detailed game covering the both Europe and Pacific Theaters of Operations during World War II. If you want grand strategy this game is for you.

Lots of work has already been done by WiF experts on the AI and I'm confident it will arrive. You can peruse it here...

In the meantime, MWiF is excellent to play solitaire and that's a great way to learn the system. As mentioned above, you can play against others too.

Thanks Neilster,

The maps and icons etc look great. Are they new? Don't remember seeing the map pack in the Matrix store before but I saw it today.

Waiting for Matrix to confirm that I can order the box set of the game (with a hard copy of the manual). Tried to do this the box set of SC WWII and was told it was download only because of Covid.

Once confirmed I will buy it. However, I can't really justify paying the same again for a map pack. Maybe sneak it into the budget a few months later.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean re map. The images I posted are, from memory, just before MWiF was released. The one with the global map is to illustrate the size of the digital map in the game. When I ordered the game, I paid extra for a physical version of the global map (in six parts). I'm not sure if that is still available.

The icons may look different to your old boardgame version because MWiF incorporates all the "chrome" of the add-ons like Planes in Flames, Ships in Flames etc.

With regard to my suggestion about watching the tutorial videos. I'd highly recommend taking notes in a structured and easily accessible form. There's just too much to remember and certain things are vital to playing properly.

Sorry, thought the images you sent related to the add-on map pack you emailed me about. So the images are from the standard game? Looks good.

The Matrix store says the box version of MWIF is available, but it said that about SC WWII as well. I was just about to finalize the purchase of SC but before I did so , I posted a question about the exact box contents (as the description was a bit vague). That's when they told me they weren't shipping due to Covid.

Matrix haven't got back to me about my query on purchasing the MWIF box set. I'll wait a few days in the hope that they do. If not I will try ordering it anyway and see what happens. I hate online manuals!

On a completely unrelated question, I was amazed that Matrix had developed a computer version of WIF without my knowledge. Has anyone successfully ported old AH games? Loved those back in the day.

Matrix got back to me and yes, they are still shipping the box set. Ordered it and am downloading the digital version now.

2.9GB install file. that looks promising.
