https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/1 ... _Complete/ Is the first one they did.

This game - TSYW - is the main reason I am cautious with GT:TCW.
I really want to read positive EA reviews before committing to make sure there are no surprises.

subscribe to "The Strategy Wargamer." He's done quite a few videos on the game, but also is a general "matrix games" kinda guy.

Yeah and he's been ultra enthused since the game was announced [:)]

However that being said most of the review videos I have seen appear positive - allowing for the fact that the game is still in beta.

I've watched a few preliminary reviews by XTRG, The Strategy Wargamer and the Historical gamer and this title looks immensely complicated on its surface.

God knows what it is like underneath the hood.

Any good?

Just Get Twilight Struggle instead and perhaps the upcoming Labyrinth Game
Fort Sumter isn't all that popular even in the board game world it came from, vs the above two.

I was searching for American Civil War games last night on various sites and platforms and came across this one called Grand Tactician: The Civil War 1861-1865.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/6548 ... _18611865/

I had not heard of it, but it looks interesting to say the least. There is a game trailer that shows pre-alpha footage on that link. Apparently it is slated to release this summer 2020.

Not sure if this had been shared previously on here, but thought I'd throw it out for others that like ACW games.

Thanks for putting this game on my radar. Most of the screenshots look amazing!

RTS that can be made to go at a crawl isn't to bad. But ya no strategy to most RT games just learn what builds the fastest and spam your enemy.

Looks like they are experiencing a bit of a delay. Supposed to be released as early access today but nothing, which is a first for me.

I watched a lot of early videos. Unfortunately some of the tactical realtime battle mechanics look a bit simplistic, but the strategic side looks great. They definitely need to optimize the GFX - everything looks like it's stuttering a lot on the videos, and all the youtubers noted a lot of UI lag.

I bought it and took it for a quick spin.

My very first impression was that the UI was a bit clunky. Had problems with turning things on and off, for example, but I am sure I'll get used to that. The map moved around like crazy with my mouse and once again, this is something you are going to have to get used to.

What I really was interested in looking at was the "strategic" layer of the game. For example, how do you build railroads? Couldn't figure that out. The only thing I could see that you can order built were forts, depots and telegraph lines.

Since all the YouTubers concentrated on fighting battles, haven't a clue about handling the strategy part.

Edit: I went to the Steam forum and looked over the game manual again and it appears that the way you manipulate the strategy side is through subsidies.

I will take a closer look at that the next time I get a chance.

I'm not sure there is a way to build railroads, but your industry may do so. That seems to be kind of a conundrum, though, because railroads were such a strategic asset to the actual armies, so there is a basis for the army trying to get railroads built.

I'm no expert on the American Civil War. Did armies or the army departments build railroads?
