Night fighters on day missions?

You can set a Pe-3 equipped fighter squadron to day missions, but the system won't let you assign them to bombing missions and they don't seem to want to intercept. This is a shame, since they have the best range of any Soviet fighter. Is this WAD? Experimenting with the Germans, it looks like their night fighters will fly during the day if you set them to day missions.

For me I don’t bomb cities as Russian and spec not on long range, I find it useless, and nightbombing total
Airfight intercept air ground near the frontline
Of course I do my air supply and recon

As the Soviets, I tend to strat bomb rail centers to limit the Axis ability to redeploy troops. I'd think with the reduction of Soviet rail capacity in 1.12 this would be a good idea for the Axis as well.
