Yankee Pride (Hellen[USA] v. Stefan[CSA])

Post by Hellen_slith »

Thanks again, Mr. Mark, for letting us try this one.

We have successfully engaged via the Slitherine Doo-Dadder thing,
I am looking forward to playing this one.

I am giving it another move or so (I have completed USA turn 1, it is in Stefan's hands now as CSA)
before I begin the AAR. Thank you again! Always great to see new scenarios like this one!

Is it ok if I post the designer notes here also, with a link to a .pdf?

Okay, well, have a great day!

@fter US turn 2:

noticed: looked at reinforcement schedule for US, none expected.
will there be in future? Maybe event driven?

I need to read those notes again.

Well, nicely done map tweaks...I noted for US, railroad is broken in places
down there in KenTUCK, so I railed three RR repair down there to hasten repairs.
Observation: seems I have a LOT of RR repair units for US,
seems maybe too much?

Otherwise: I have 3 Armies on maneuvers ATM, still cease-fire,
boundaries abide with CS right now.

Very fun so far, I like the scale, is easy to grasp the strategic.
Well, on with the war! Mr. Stef is moving the CS turn 2 now.

PPS: I am not familiar w/ the mag/S&T tabletop,
searching on webbie for that ... do you maybe have a guide or pic of the original?

edit: NM, found it! S&T 1976 #54
This is great! I probably got that in the mail back then,
never got to play though .... until now!

at beginning of US turn 3, I get the news that US declares war!
Boundary ssems to have been lifted, I see some reserves were placed for CSA ...
still not seeing any forces expected as reinforcement, so I'll start slow and just probe.
Here is part of map, the Red Star hex is Phillie, the US Capital.
If CSA captures Phillie, they automatic win. So I need to watch that hex and area!
PS: counted about 1000 RR crews in total on US side, in 10 diff. regiments,
and they can subdivide but the subdivided units are pretty weak on repair skill.
So I guess that ok, also, is good that it seems auto-repair is doing at least some repairs around embarked RR unit, I like that.

@beginning of US turn 7:

seeing some reinforcements scheduled now for US,
here is the Okla / Arka area....
was wondering, up there NE of Little Rock,
would be nice to have a label for the Ozark Mtn area,
and add maybe a few peaks in there?

Here, 3rd US Army was making way toward OKC and Little Rock, (but reorganizing this turn, DRAT)
to the east 2d Army going toward Raliegh / Atlanta?
1st to Raliegh too.

@US turn 14:

an ill-conceived plan to land Marines at Wilmington, SC
was repulsed, much loss to the Corps

In West, the Okla-Arka push also repulsed easily by CSA forces,
but, US has taken Richmond VA. Marginal defeat for US thus far

How did 3rd Army end up reorganizing? Isn't Command and Control turned off?

Yes, I checked and C&C is ON...I don't remember over-riding any settings,
but maybe I turned it on by mistake.

Well on US 16 now, the Okla/Arka front was for naught,
but I seem to be making progress fr. Raleigh

I can't do a lot b/c my arm gets tired / numb quickly from holding mouse,
so I just do main points...still have to type one finger here...

banging your elbow / funny bone like I did is no funny LoL hurts like the devil,
even after two weeks! and not even broken! Do not bang your elbow.
Wear elbow pads!!!! at all times LoL!!!!!

@US turn 27 (October 6, 1927)

Stefan and I are plugging along, I think both of us are a bit unsure of our forces;
I have 1st US Army moving nicely along seaboard,
trying to get into Raleigh now.....

have noticed, might want to look at hex 83,26 from design standpoint,
it seems a bit hinky. Deep water hex, CSA able to retreat into (maybe they have submarine there)
also it is labelled somehow as Objective hex (see inlay of hex description below)

US engineers able to attack there also
just seems a bit wierd, may have been fixed in new version, not sure
Still is fun scene, OK back to it!
