Question of the Ages

Matrix Games and Simulations Canada combine and completely remake two classic NATO vs. Warsaw Pact wargames into a new classic. Based on the original wargames “Main Battle Tank: North Germany” and “Main Battle Tank: Central Germany”, Flashpoint Germany is a new grand tactical wargame of modern combat. Every aspect of modern grand tactical warfare is included, from advanced armor, air and helicopters to chemical and tactical nuclear weapons. Step into the most dangerous war.. . that never was.

Question of the Ages

Post by Cpt. Canuck »

So when is this gem gonna be available to the public? I have been quietly following this game on and off for a while now.

If it is in beta, I am hoping for a weeks/months answer here. =)

Also, as this is from Sim Canada, will the Canadian NATO Brigade be able to take part in the festivities?

Anyways, here is hoping

We are in Beta at this point. Most of the mechanics and coding of the game is complete, we are in to tweaking and adding things that make the game fun. I will not give an estimate as to a release....yet, as we are still assessing bugs/tweaks. But, being in Beta means we are close to the end of the road.

I will certainly give out that information as soon as I can make that determination however.

I'll check into your brigage :)

Ah, thanks sorta. Maybe I can buy me a nice Christmas present?

And thanks for checking. I would supposed the Dutch, Belgiums, French, Spanish, and the Warsaw Pact minors would also be interested in seeing their guys.

The game, as originally specified, was for the American, Brits, West Germans and the Soviets. Obviously we want to make it much wider than that but the research problems can be quite daunting, even just to nail those 4 down circa 1989. I used to enjoy this part of the project but man - the hours it can suck up and still leave you wondering....

As a Canadian myself I too want to see the 4 CMBG in action, and the design was laid out so as to make adding nationalities for scenario designers fairly easy.

It has been several months now since I have looked at it. Thanks for reminding me about it, I'll just take a run through again to see that I left everything sufficiently open ended again!

Cheers, Rob.

Thanks Robert.

Good to know we can be added later.

I would rather have the game and add the Canadians et al in later.

A good source for the 4th CMBG (and an excellent read as well) is Kenneth Macksey's "First Clash : Combat close-up in World War III".

It details the fictional defense of Blickheim by the 4th CMBG.

The version I have is a 1986 re-print so is set a little before the events in the game.

Is the implication in being able to add national forces not currently covered, that equipment used by those national forces can added with the appropriate national force?
