The Allied Counter Attack
Unfortunately dean was successful at catching some prey, albeit probably not what he wanted. The cargo ships departing Port Moresby were not fast enough to get away and were attacked by a large carrier air strike resulting in the entire cargo tf being lost. The cruiser TF was fast enough to get away in time and is moving to Soerbaja to resupply before heading back to the SW Pacific.

CS must be done in Tokyo. Its a special conversion that must be done in your capital.ORIGINAL: soulsilver
Ok I have a question for you guys, im currently trying to convert the CS chitose to a CVL It has no damage and is disbanded in Nagasaki which has a sufficiently large dockyard. furthermore I have the ship set yes to upgrade.... not sure what my problem is.

Great AAR going so far. My only comment is to not expend too much on defenses on the outer areas of the empire. Just as now for the IJ KB, when the allied Death Star is formed, there is no target that they cannot subdue. They do not have to take everything, only what they want and isolate everything else. The trick in the late mid-game for the IJ is to know when to start voluntarily contracting her empire.
Sure you resist in the Mariana's at least somewhat, but it isn't the best place for a major stand. Force him also to nuetralize Babeldoab and Iwo, both are G3M3 range to Mariana's, both of those locations are far better to stage a fight at ... etc. You pretty much know where he wants to go, think that through and be ready. Don't waste supply on places that cannot be held. SPend some for sure, but just remember every ton you spend will NOT be there in the HI later ... taking a lot of atolls up to level 3 forts that will never be defended adequately because either you withdraw OR the allies simply isolate is a waste of supply ...

Thank you for the input Pax I've put a great deal of thought into fortifying regions in the 2nd line of defense Around truk and Saipan. My comprehensive defense of the Solomon islands area is not representative of my defenses everywhere. Base building in the Gilberts for instance is quite modest in comparison, with 2 SNLF guards and some engineers to build forts. In the marshals I have a single SNLF defending Maleolap, along with some flying boats. I'm fortifying the Solomon Islands area so heavily because I highly suspect my opponent will attempt to counter attack here in a couple of months, and due to Deans apparent interest in the area. The death star has been at Sydney most of the game, and he has a large majority of his subs in this area. On top of this hes raided the area with his carriers twice now in the space of about a month. Overall my plan is to initially conduct a forward defense to prevent territorial losses in 42 before switching to defense in depth by 43. The Truk and Saipan areas are already being fortified, but I have not given much thought to Babeldaob. I'll move a engineer unit there in a week to help build up the base.

A later strike of 2 Kates achieved no further hits for today, but I'm pretty happy with my LBA air units in the Solomons who thus far have achieved spectacular results.
Hornet and Enterprise have taken 4 and 5 torpedo hits respectively and will likely take 4-6 months to repair if they get away at all.

May 18th
today the land based bombers at Woodlark and Port Moresby were unable to find their target despite, dean's carriers being spotted and well within range of escorted attack. Bad weather helped cover dean's retreat which is nearing Townsville Australia. I'll probably have one more shot at the carriers before they are out of range of escort.

In the SW pacific 11 bombers located the Hornet and put a final torpedo in her, sinking her outright. Enterprise is heavily damaged and will be out of action for at least 4 months, and formidable was hit by 2 torpedos two weeks ago.Yorktown was hit by a torpedo during dean's last sortie into the Rabual area but is probably fixed by now. Right now the only operational carriers that dean has left is the Hermes, possibly yorktown and the CVL Charlotte.... After this debacle I doubt dean is gonna try and raid here again, and I doubt hes gonna try and launch any large amphibious operations any time soon. Some LCUs I had headed to the area will be diverted to India.

In south India Dean is on the attack despite only having similar force ratios to what I have. He hasn't concentrated his forces either so I wonder how he intends to make any progress. The vanguard of his attack is a armoured Brigade that got smashed today.

Enterprise has escaped with her life but wont be coming back anytime soon. Since I don't have much to fear regarding the allied carrier force I am going to raid the Karachi area with Carrier Division 1 and 4 while Hiryu and her sister and the two Shokaku sisters Upgrade in Singapore and Hiroshima respectively. I'm aware that I dont need to send the Shokaku class sisters back to japan, but I want to resize some training air groups, and upgrades are a good excuse to return to japan. In India Dean continues to infringe on my rightful liberation of southern India and is attempting unsuccessfully to encircle me but today he got a bloody noes while attempting a river crossing with the 40th Division.

So 2 Carriers sunk and rest are crippled , congratz [&o]. Did you get confirmation on any other carriers with air losses and such ?
And since they are crippled i imagine they cant go far , bring all of your carriers together and raid Sydney and Melbourne [:D]

As far as I can tell only enterprise, illustrious and hornet were part of the TF and No additional ground loses of carrier planes was spotted in the air casualties. In regard to your suggestion to raid Melbourne, me and my opponent know each other pretty well as we have been opponents of each other since we both started playing the game around christmas this year. This not the first time I've killed most or all of Dean's carriers and I know that dean is prone to conceding after experiencing sudden carrier loss syndrome and I would rather continue the game. I've never played a game past turn 180 ish and I would like to take this game at least into 43. So I'm not keen to just end the game by raiding Melbourne and Sydney. Hence I'm going to show an odd degree of mercy in this regard.

Well, he needs to learn that the Allies can come back after losing the carriers. Either that, or not have them go into Harm's Way.

May 24th
not a ton happened the past few days in between posting but today was an auspicious day in Northern India. Dean had largely abandoned Jamshedpur the day before which was taken with little opposition and today Howra capitulated as well. Deans 3 Divisions which retreated east of Jamshedpur now have no where to run, other than southwest which will shortly be cut off by my tanks, as well as the 18th, 5, and 33rd Divisions. They are in effect dead meat. The loss of 3 Divisions should allow me to take Calcutta fairly easily. Combined with the debacle for dean in the south and the allies are having a bad day in India for sure.

Dean has a problem with sending carriers where they should not be. Hes lost his carriers in largely the same spot, off the coast of Australia in previous games without learning his lesson.ORIGINAL: RangerJoe
