Dividing air units
When you do it the leader goes to the A group, with pilots being selected as leaders for B/C seeming based on their Insp. This often results in poor specific skills air for fighter etc).
Do you just leave them or spend pps changing them? If you spend pps, combining later returns the leader to the pool and any further dividing means you have to do it all over again.

RE: Dividing air units
I don’t divide many air units other than recon units.
They seem to take photos just fine with the auto leaders despite some of them having awful stats.
If it’s a unit that will stay divided for a long time that might be worth spending the 10ish PP on to change the leader.

Currently playing my first PBEM, no house rules Scenario 1 as IJ.

RE: Dividing air units
I just leave the B/C leaders alone.

RE: Dividing air units
I view PPs as a long-term strategic resource, & rarely change a 'tactical' unit leader, & only if that leader will be retained. Spending PP to change the leader of an air-unit's subgroup would be last on my list.

As with nearly everything in this game, it depends. There're some instances where I will make changes, but rarely.

I divide a lot. I always make sure the commander is up to the task assigned. I don't run out of PPs. I must not be spending those on the same things as other players [&:]

RE: Dividing air units
The biggest drain on PPs is releasing LCUs, especially large infantry units. I think long and hard before doing that. Mostly the LCUs I release are engineers. They provide a large benefit per the PPs expended. Later in the war lost LCUs you've rebuilt (and I always do that given the opportunity) come on as restricted units, regardless of what they were when destroyed. That's annoying.

Most players don't spend PPs on releasing scantily clad Gorness dancers, if that's what you mean.ORIGINAL: geofflambert

I'm always out. Just like mines, they serve no purpose in a 'pool'.

Absolutely, who wants to buy these things out twice.[:@]

Keep enough for emergency needs.
The rebuilt units are cheap. It is cheaper not to get the units destroyed in the first place. Or to save a little bit of the unit when it looks like it will be destroyed.

RE: Dividing air units
I always end up with thousands upon thousands of PP as Japan. It's not really a real constraint except early game.
RE: Dividing air units
Really? Do you play with a house rule of PP's to cross borders? Only way I can see to save so many PP's. I'm in Sept '43 and only have ~1000, but that's only because I'm buying out a division from Manchukuo.

When I divide, I swap leaders for better ones, and don't recombine the unit until I really need no.I mostly divide fighter groups into ABC for sweeping purposes.

Now we haven't discussed whether it's preferable to use mitosis or meiosis. It depends on the circumstances, but I prefer to keep that under my hat.

Do Gorn pilots use their tails to steer?

RE: Dividing air units
Evolution. We used to have tails but they kept falling off whenever we were frightened, which happens a lot. So Nature just stopped bothering with tails on us. This is from a mod I've been working on.

The male gorns detach their tail to distract the female gorns.
