Mortar points

Post by jirik »

Hi,

I've noticed that SP mortars for US (seems the same case for USSR but I have not checked others) are cheaper in points than the static ones. The SPs have even more round per tubes than the statics.

Why is that? What is the advantage of static mortars that makes them more expensive?

Example is M106A1 vs 4.2 inch heavy mortar sections. The mortar is same but SP version is cheaper by 3 points and has double the ammo.

Thanks a lot for an explanation.

Dismounted mortars are harder to spot and hence more survivable.

You would think a SP mortar system would be more costly to produced and hence be more costly to the nation fielding it. So maybe the developers are trying to limit static mortars within scenarios. Interesting observations.

Thanks for the reply.

I can live with it albeit is a little bit unfortunate. Given that neither dismounted mortars can be transported due to the engine limitations nor they can change a position in case they were spotted I think at least the ammo should be same for both. In other case I think the scales are tipped in favour of SPs.
