In Northern France disaster looms, if there had been a large corps in Brest the disaster would already be here. I barely got Lorient. It is too crowded in the Brest peninsula and Axis armour on the way so I begin to prepare for evac but expect to lose some units. Same invasion at Calais. Just a 2 port wont do anyone anything good. It is empty around my units there so again I could have ran my arm corps into Germany and ruined the big production cities but again doesnt feel right so I didnt.

In the south though the gate into France opens up and I try to swarm in. If I can have a frontline in southern France with me having crossed the Garonne river at least partly I would be quite content and the sacrifice in the North will be worth it.

Battlevonwar defends really well . There are I think at least 8 mech/arm in France and have most of the Luftwaffe there so he can kind of keep air parity during his turn and keep them on standby on mine.

Here I must say I think something maybe should be done about airbase bombing. I feel there is no way to try and establish air superiority in an area. Think Battle of Britain and the allies in 43-44. I do it a little but it really has no effect as far as I can tell. You dont inflict any damage and if they suffer a bit of readiness loss one can always use supply trucks. I feel if you want to have your airbases in an area but are not willing to intercept the bombing of your bases those bases should suffer a fair amount of losses in the bombing runs. If you dont want your bases to be bombed one should have to move them out of range. I dont know just food for thought [:)].

June 4 1943

Churchbells rings out all over Russia as the 1st Siberian tankcorps enter Moscow. One manpower more at least if I understand the rulebook correct and like 40 production so feels good [:)]. Or do the production have to repair? Probably then it will be a long while before it is 40 but everything counts.

Again thinking those 2 units in Finland could have ran down halfway to Poland by now but done is done. I know Finland is a sideshow but it feels so good to get rid of them so I often get distracted by them.

In the south follow as the Axis retreat.

In France I evacuate Brest losing a HQ but Patton did not die and 1 mech corps surrender. I start to evacuate Calais as well expecting to lose one inf corps and possibly a canadian para corps as well.

As compensation I barely managed to take Marseilles so that was nice and should secure me southern France. I also got over the river in force and a lot of units flood into the area.

Just to clarify, your Warplan was to provide UK with the majority of the US lend lease to build them up. Russia took heavy losses and lost a lot of territory all the while the build up of UK and US forces allowed you to perform an early D-Day so to speak. In turn, when Axis forces were moved over to counter the French invasion, the eastern front began it's push towards Germany. Brilliant plan!

When this game is complete I'm hoping you can share how much armor you build for the US, UK and Russia. I noticed and you mentioned you didn't have a Russian air force but you do have a US and UK air force I see.

Brilliant and Brilliant I dont know [:)]. It was a mistake not an intention to not send any lend lease to the Soviets in the summer of 42 and Battlevonwar closed it down in the winter. But the Soviets survived and the extra resources built up the western allies a bit faster.

I again lost the Red Airforce in I think not a very good way. I have a new idea what to do with them in my next game.

In June-43 after the invasions the US have 7 mech/arm the British 8 and the USSR 17. I only build mech/arm no infantry with the western allies except for the British in 39-40 of course.

June 18 1943

What an insane crazy turn [:)]. Firstly it seems I managed to cut the supply of the Finnish forces who in their own 1812 march start walking home through the forests.

In Russia the German turns around and start counterattacking all over the front. Shattering 1 corps maul a mech and an arm corps and several inf armies. One army is also surrunded against the coast of the sea of Azov.

In my turn I try to counterattack. Kalinin, Orel and Kursk falls. One German coprs shatter and one airsupport unit overrun. I barely have the units to cover all of the front [:)].

Konigsberg was again left unguarded so now I took my chance and landed there.

And the south. I am a bit surprised how well the German inf did against my corps with when I had HQ support and they did not. I still managed to liberate my army and surround a German one instead but next turn I expect my army to shatter and the German corps will walk away.

I still not sure what the losses report actually reports but as you can see from the numbers it looks like it was a slaughterfest .

I forgot to take a screenshot of France but I advanced in the south and the Axis cleared up the calais landing finishing off as expected an inf corps and a para corps. So lost units in the invasion was 1 HQ,1 mech 2 para and 1 inf. Not cheap but they can be replaced. Again applaud for the very nice defense of France. The big question for me could the invasions been cleaned up while still leaving the entry from Spain closed? Then things would have been bleak indeed.

July 2 1943

In Finland the advance continues but the garrison of Helsinki is a corps and will not fall soon.

In Russia the Germans retreat a lot and I follow.

In the south my surrounded army actually survives and instead it is the German corps who walk off to Siberia.

In France a frontline is finally established. I shattered one inf corps and I have surrounded another.

Just a picture of my stratbombing campaign. Stettin, Munich and Prague bombed out also have one bomber bombing Ploesti oil. I have 4 bombers but 2 have been operational for just a couple of turns, I will have 7 bombers in September. Annoyingly enough the US escort Fighters are still 43 tech. All other tech is 44 but not that one typical [:)].

And that was sadly the last of it. My opponent felt that the situation is not very good and decided to give up. Hats off to Battlevonwar and thank you for a very nice game and very well played. I felt pressured in Egypt, in the Atlantic both summers of 41 and 42 in Russia and finally a very good set up defense in both Italy and France. I really felt sometimes that this was a lost cause.

This was one of the best playing experiences I have had. I could barely sleep in the excitement [:)]. I have learnt a lot and have some things to ponder upon for the future. Thanks everyone who contributed in the thread.

I have as always after I finish a game some thoughts and ideas but I think I´ll make a new thread of it.

Thanks for the great AAR! Sorry to see that it did not go to the bitter end, but if the game is no fun anymore for someone there is no sense in continuing.

Thanks for an awesome AAR and thanks so much for the big pics. So much easier to see the lay of the land. Well played by both. I'm looking forward to your comments, especially those about Air superiority. I have a few thoughts too and some have been shared on Steam. (Maybe WP2) I only play Axis and the thing that I find very difficult is covering all the ports with garrison units. You really need to use your minors and share German production points or split up a great deal of your infantry units. Maybe in the future it might be possible to build garrison units. (Maybe WP2)

Thank you both. There might be a rematch but maybe not until the next patch but it might be with Beta update too. We will see. I tend to play games out to the bitter end but I also understand time is precious and if it is no fun then giving up is ok too.

Ok I will continue with the bigger pictures. If I spend some time should be able to cut out parts not needed so the picture might be smaller and therefore a bit sharper. I will continue to experiment [:)]

Odd to look into the thinking process of your opponent like this. I haven't had quite as detailed an AAR from an opponent in awhile. You had quite a bit of Armor, I really tried to get you to fight me for Moscow but you knew it was not a good idea then you did well to sneak around me and flank me in the North. I saw it but I didn't think you would do it like that precisely ... Plus distracting in the West at the same time.

I also had thought to really hit you hard at sea and what might of happened had Gibraltar had fallen! It would of been a bit different I think but still your Production was just so overwhelming.

My axis were either strapped for oil, manpower or Production the whole game. Stretched very thin... Having to worry about Italy made things twice as bad cause there were 5 or 6 full German Corps there for a good deal of the game. (1 city like Naples costing their surrender is a bit too much I think)
