CFNA with SPI counter colors?

Post by Zovs »

So after tweaking counters on Larry's B41 mod, I decided to tweak all of Bob's CFNA series and use the old SPI counter colors from way back in 1978 or so when SPI released CFNA.

I don't know if anyone would be interested in these or not. If they are I could post a zip file, but then you'd have to dig down into the 'hidden' regions and drop each one of these files into the proper scenario slots.

I am also using the flat counter mod from Dave.

Just for fun here are some screen shots.

Sorry I have a 4k monitor, looks great on my machine but may be large and grainy here...

This is the start of the 1941 CG

If there is any interest, I'll have dig out all the *.col files and zip them up and you would have to install them in the correct locations. Also, I am using Dave's flat counter mod, I just like it a bit better.

Thanks for listening.

Definitely interested! However, I had ambitions of someday using the actual uniform colors.

I have completed all my work on these. I have about 10 screen shots to share if interested and I can also post the zip, it contains 6 *.col files for each scenario (essentially the same file, just renamed and designed to fit into the original folders, and I also included the two graphic files that are the flat counter things, they can be used or discarded, I just think they look cool.

I have been working on tidying these up for the last 4 hours, so going to break and eat some chow and then I can post the screen shots and then I'll post the zip file.

Would you like the screen shots sized down or is the 4k ones okay to view?

(those that don't have 4k's may feel it's too much to scroll so let me know)

So here is some screenshots, sorry about the size and any graininess (looks fantastic on my 4k monitor, but I also scaled the screenshots a bit to help those that don't have a 4k), please note my mode is a pretty close approximation to the old SPI counters, it's not exact and I took a few liberties to make the icons stand out or be more conforming or viewable within the constraints of TOAW and also of the old 1978 board game. Recall back then, around this time SPI was into using Pastel's and some other common SPI art type of work, but overall I am please with this look and the work I put into this little mod. Took about 8 hours to complete, inspect and test. Next post I'll upload the zip file for those that are interested.

So here is the *.col files, you should place them in your default game install folders, i.e. here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Operational Art of War IV\Graphics Override

Sorry I am using steam, so yours should be the default directory for the default games (i.e. not your normal place to store these like: C:\Users\<YOUR-USERNAME>\Documents\My Games\The Operational Art of War IV\Scenarios\WW II - Mediterranean).

Hope that all makes sense.

Enjoy.
