Another Tutorial question

Post by wobbleguts »

Up to IT 17. All went went until page 7. The instructions state...

Naval Unit Movement: Precise Path (Page 7 of 12)
• MM Bristol (England); EX NRD;

Did this no problems obviously but then it adds
RC
Which is a bit strange because it brings up an options box for Bristol. However, it does lock the NDR form on Bristol naval units so I continued.
• LC CA Manchester; LC CL Achilles
• HOLD {Ctrl}; LC Bay of Biscay (Global Map)
• RD Drop Off/Load Units Form; LC Select None; OK

All worked ok. But I couldn't complete the following because a new form came up called 'choose sea section'....
• HOLD {Ctrl}; LC Cape St. Vincent (Global Map); EX Drop Off/Load
Can't do that because of this 'Choose Sea Section' form in Bay of Biscay. The game won't allow me to select Cape St on either the global or main map. If I close or cancel the 'Choose sea section' form my naval units end up back where they started from in Bristol.

Any ideas?

If you select naval units to move and click a sea zone, the program will try to route them there by avoiding sea zones with enemy units in them. Sometimes your units won't have the range to do so and you must attempt to sail past the enemy units. CTRL-LC tells the program you want to enter that sea zone as opposed to sailing around it.

• HOLD {Ctrl}; LC Cape St. Vincent (Global Map); EX Drop Off/Load
Can't do that because of this 'Choose Sea Section' form in Bay of Biscay. The game won't allow me to select Cape St V on either the global or main map. If I close or cancel the 'Choose sea section' form my naval units end up back where they started from in Bristol.

Got round this by closing the annoyingly unexpected 'Choose sea section' form, selecting the units in Bristol again and simply moving the cursor to St Vincent directly. That worked.

MWIF IT's are very detailed and I think this is the first time I've come across a real error. It's no big deal though. Finished the rest of the tutorial without any issues.

Hi,

Another minor complaint about the ITs. Am up to the production tutorial. Only politics to go! On page 12 of 13 the production tutorial says...

Production: Save Build Point (Page 12 of 13)
• LC Done Production; EX Production (Italy)
• LC Anti-Aircraft (Unit Type); LC Build Selected Unit Type
• LC Done Production; RD Message

All ok, but at this stage the instructions are,,,

• LC Yes; RD Save Build Points
• LC Rome; LC Save Build Point
• EX Save Build Points; OK

So I clicked yes but instead of getting a 'save build points' form I get a production form for Japan and then the other major powers.

Certainly didn't tie in with...

• LC Yes; RD Save Build Points
• LC Rome; LC Save Build Point
• EX Save Build Points; OK

I went back a few pages and tried again. When I got to..
• LC Done Production; RD Message

I read the message very carefully and it said I could save build points after the other powers production is done. So I click done/ok/whatever for the other powers and yes, I eventually get the save build points form for Italy.

So I've figured it out, but I could have done it a lot quicker if the instructions and commentary were expanded. For example, • LC Done Production; RD Message should be changed to LC Done Production; RD Message carefully. Notice that you will save build points after the other powers are finished with production. Click Finished on each power and you will be able to save Italian build units.

Cost me 15mins to figure out where I went wrong.

IMO the instruction/commentary box is way to small. Should be expanded to include more information.

The tutorials are sometimes difficult for no apparent reason, almost like a test.

Originally the BPs were saved after each MP completed their production. This was later changed so that BPs were saved after all MPs were done with their builds.

Finished the Interactive tutorials!

So are they any good? Well they teach you to navigate various forms etc but they haven't given me any real sense of how the game is actually played. Hopefully all these forms pop up automatically during the numerous game phases and it will make more sense. If they don't I will be lost.

The IT's are very detailed. LC, EX, CF, OK etc etc, but they are not detailed enough. There is little info on why you are clicking this or that option. You just have to do it to get through the tutorial and it becomes a chore.

Also, the IT's have some mistakes in them. This is a real pain and it should be fixed. Orm said Originally the BPs were saved after each MP completed their production. This was later changed so that BPs were saved after all MPs were done with their builds. Ok, understand that, but why haven't the tutorials been updated to reflect this?

IMO, the instruction and commentary boxes should be merged into a much larger window. ie , do LC, EX, CF, OK and then have a more detailed commentary underneath each step explaining what this does and why you are doing it. Switching to the commentary button didn't tell me much at at all (except on page 1 of each tutorial where it outlines the stage of the game).

Even better would be a scripted program separate from the game proper guiding you through game situations.

Glad I bought the manuals. Hopefully they are more useful.
