Feb 8 - 9

First an update on ship repairs -

BB Kongo made it to Hong Kong without encountering any Allied subs. It will take 86 more days to repair in the shipyard. Enroute to Hong Kong, the TF picked up CA Chokai, which had repaired all it could at Saigon, and dropped off CAs Takao and Atago (which had been with Kongo). CA Chokai will need 124 days in the shipyard at Hong Kong for full repair. The RSY at Hong Kong had to be expanded to 51 (from 50) to accommodate BB Kongo and CA Chokai simultaneously.

Meanwhile, back at Saigon, CA Mikuma just finished repair in the shipyard, and has been replaced by CA Atago, which will require 11 days in the shipyard. When finished, Atago will be replaced by CA Takao for about 39 days (it may be less as 9 days of engine repair at pierside will occur in the interim).

Feb 8 - Mauban flipped just before an SNLF landed by Amphib TF and a parachute SNLF landing by air. Mines were confirmed at Batavia when a DD hit one. BB Hyuga TF bombarded Batavia without hitting anymore mines, then retired to Kalidjati. BB Haruna TF bombarded Moulmein. Vacant Galeia was captured. An Allied sub fired at CV Akagi traveling east from Balikpapan, but MISSED.

Feb 9 - Vacant Culion was captured. Vacant Probolinggo was captured by 8 Tank Rgt; resource is undamaged. CA Maya took 3 torpedoes (from a Dutch sub) at Banjoewangi, and SANK. Batavia was captured by 5 and IG Divs, the defenders retreated east; resource and all industry are UNDAMAGED. 41 PA Div surrendered to 16 Div at Batangas. A tank only deliberate attack at Sian went well, although did not reduce forts -

Luzon Update

I haven't talked about Luzon lately, so here's a map of the current situation -

Image

1 Div is still in the process of being bought out from Manchuria and reassembled on Luzon. 1 Recon is at Iba; other regiments are at Clark Field. 21 Div is in the process of assembling at Clark, as well. One brigade is there now, one is enroute from Swatow (arriving at Iba on the 18th-19th), and one is still in China on garrison duty. 16 Div is at Manila with SNLF support. 48 Div is scattered. One regiment is on Sumatra marching to an east side port to ship to Luzon. Others are on Java and currently loading transports for Luzon. 14 Army HQ is on transports enroute to Luzon. South Army HQ is on Java prepping for Soerbaja. When Java is conquered, South HQ will prep for Bataan and move to Luzon.

The Allied units at Manila and Iba may not retreat, as Clark Field is the closest base controlled by the Allies, but it is occupied by Japanese troops. Most of the Allied defenders on Luzon are already at Bataan!

Feb 24 - Clark Field captured by the Empire

Unbelievable, but true - Clark Field fell to the Japanese on the first deliberate attack with only level 1 forts!

For some inexplicable reason, he's defending Manila and has already moved most of his Luzon force to Bataan. IMO, Clark Field is the MOST defensible hex on the island, with level 3 terrain.

In other action, the port of Soerabaja is being swept of mines, and a CV strike on the ground units north of Moulmein helped in retreating that stack -

Feb 25 - 27

Feb 25 - On Java, vacant Tjepoe and Madioen were captured; no damage to any industry at either one. And the Allied minefield at Soerabaja has been cleared. Working on getting more supply there to start fixing up stuff like OIL and RSY.

Feb 26 - An Allied sub was sunk near Tulagi by the CarDiv 1 TF (Akagi, Kaga, and a CVL); the carriers were NOT detected. Vacant Biak was captured.

Feb 27 - 48 Div began arriving on Luzon from Java and Sumatra, for the capture of Manila, then Bataan. The last elements of 1 and 21 Divs are also inbound from China. So, a full 4 divisions will be available (1, 16, 21, and 48) shortly.

The surrounded Allied stack that had been defending Soerabaja (now located 1 hex west) had 1 unit destroyed on the 24th, 3 more surrendered on the 25th, 2 surrendered on the 26th, and 5 more were destroyed or surrendered on the 27th. Two combat ineffective units remain.

looks like good progress is being made in the SRA, but IDK if trying to take Bataan/Manila this early is necessary. I Usually just leave the 65 Brigade and a Division maybe 2 and let them starve. provided that you keep some recon on Manila to make sure he does not sneak planes in he cant do a lot other than resupply subs which you can bomb. Those two extra Divisions could be used elsewhere such as an offensive into Aussi or India.

Manila has industry that you can use.

Are you playing with stacking limits? Another reason he might be defending Manila instead is that Clark only fits 40,000 troops, which is not enough to hold all the Allied Luzon forces.

But I agree, I would still defend Clark instead of Manila.....besides as defender the stacking limits also work in your favor as IJA can only use 2 divisions or so

No stacking limits; this is the vanilla Scenario 1 game.

Thanks, but two divisions would not constitute an offensive into either Australia or India. A heavy raid, maybe. Where I really could use them is Burma right now, but the 5th, 18th, and Imperial Guard will be headed there to join 33rd, 55th, and 56th as soon as they can load in a Java port. He's had a fairly large force in Rangoon until a few days ago, and I suspect it's moved north to dig in. I think I would have put up more of a fight in the big city.
