as I've said, enemy carriers were bailing out of the Marshalls when their fighters were shot down in droves by our Franks/Georges and today offered the chance to strike at enemy shipping we were waiting for... pretty much all Judies from Maloelap and Frances' from Kusai Island were launching against shipping at Kwajalein... weather was good and the big number of Franks weren't needed as there is no enemy fighter presence yet... I guess the enemy is picking up his assault units from Roi-Namur and while a lot of the bombers attacked the destroyers, those that attacked transport shipping were highly succesful...

torpedo bombers like the Betty and Nell rule the first months of the war but in the later stages torpedo bombers are pretty much useless... they score the sensational hit on a BB or a CV now and then but overall I'd trade two of my torpedo bombers for one Judy which is just so much more a threat to any Allied shipping with the 800kg bomb and a great hit rate compared to the torpedo bombers... three dozen torpedo bombers scored one hit in this attack that is worth it, the hits on the APA and AGC were a waste as both ships were dead already... add in the bad hit rate due to even modest flak they also take way more flak losses than the flimsy Judy as they have to go in low for their torpedo runs... the above convoy is something I wouldn't consider a flak heavy target, considering how an Allied task force could look like in mid 444... and then at least a third of the torpedo bombers are a waste by default because they attack from the wrong angle 100% missing with their torps...they are more expensive, have a way worse hit rate, take more losses and are slower which leaves them with the only notable advantage of having more range than the Judy...

and it's a total waste to attack destroyers... I'd say my pilot training programme was wrong as I have trained lots and lots of IJNAF pilots to fly torpedo bombers, should have 90% of them trained on nav bomb and use the torpedo bombers at 1000ft bomb runs...

OUCH! The old story of bring a lot and take a lot of losses... a tank rgt was whiped out and lack of supply doesn't seem to have any effect on the combat ability of the Allied troops in the pocket at Poona... will be a looong fight and I wonder if I should just do the same as at the pocket of Jessore where thousands of Allied troops are starved to death each day...
