Well I did the code for Hexthing Germany and overwrote it using the TOAW hexgrid. The resulting conversion was exponentially harder than I thought it would be. Way to hard.
I am now leaning towards Golden Delicious's idea of simply not worrying about the difference in hexes and transcribing it straight from the Hexthingy grid onto the TOAW scenario map. The difference between the two after 700 hexes (east west) will be about 81 hexes. Is this too big of a discrepancy?
Followed up on ODD but it wont run on my 64bit computer. Is there a 64 bit version anywhere.

The distances in hexes should be correct without any adjustment. That's what counts. The appearance of the map may be stretched out a bit, though. But that's just eye candy. And the micromap has a different pixel ratio than the main map, so it may look non-stretched.

Runs fine on my 64bit machine and others that I have built. But as we all should know, not all machines are created equal regardless of the specs. Do you get some kind of message?

OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Home
System Type x64-based PC
Processor AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor, 3593 Mhz, 6 Core(s), 12 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 32.0 GB
Vid Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650

Hey Lobster. I worked it out. My security program was stopping odd from running. Got it working now.
Hey Curtis. If you think it's okay, then that's more than good enough for me. I will get cracking on the map.

On the other hand you could you Curt Chamber's Opart Design and Debug (ODD). The map tool has the means to stretch or compress hexes. Maybe that would fix the problem. http://yves.lr.pagesperso-orange.fr/ODD/ODD.htm
Hmm. That URL for ODD is no longer valid. Anyone know where ODD can be found ?

Cheers

This is the version I have stored locally. It's actually from 2002 (as I don't use ODD) so might not even be the final version. Curt may show up and produce a more recent one.

The point about drift is hearsay (I haven't measured it myself), but would actually materially affect the map if the hexes aren't drawn to exactly the right size. Apart from anything else, if you're drawing quite small hexes there'll be a rounding error as the program has to settle on a particular number of pixels as the size of each hex. For example if it's rounding up from 14.5 to 15 pixels then two points which are 435 pixels apart should be 30 hexes apart but will be drawn as 29 hexes apart... of course this is hardly fatal, but the problem will be more acute for smaller hexes.

Otherwise, one of the things I'm wary of with ODD is that you're pretty much stuck with whatever base image you drop a hex grid over. One of the things about Latlong (and Bob you should be cheerleading yourself on this one) is that you can fairly easily combine multiple sources, and in particular use Google Maps / Google Earth at any zoom level comfortably without having to keep referring back to your master map image.

I'm going to stick to my guns here. ODD is probably a lot easier to use, but I think Latlong produces more accurate maps.

I'd be cheering a little more if the thing ran on something other than Vista or earlier. I gotta make an up-to-date version someday.

It's really not a problem to have to use DOSBox. It takes about thirty seconds longer to get into Latlong, and I'm sure if I wanted to do it regularly I could figure out a script which would run it instantly.
