But bombing will still burn any supply, keeping up the disruption and fatigue as well so more losses will occur in any combat such as bombardments.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

every couple of days a unit dies of starvation, we are down to 75 now, when around 150 enemy units landed around Calcutta... that's actually a nice progress as we haven't really attacked them except some small stacks...

nothing of importance happening this turn but nav search has picked up the Allied carriers again, most likely coming for the Marshalls again... doubt we will see more invasions until the base forces replace the assault troops at Roi-Namur... Kwajalein was retaken and Wotje's assault repulsed but I'm sure the enemy must have prepped for more targets in the area... relying on just Roi-Namur will bring him nowhere as this level 4 airfield can't dominate the Marshalls and Gilberts with three level 5 airfields there... I also wonder if the enemy plans to fully bypass the Gilberts, not sure if that would do him any good but that's of course depending on the overall Allied strategy in the Pacific...

have moved fighters in big numbers into the Marshalls again and set them to strato sweep Roi-Namur to torch some leaking CAP form teh carriers but I was surprised how strong the CAP was... diving dozens of times on the enemy CAP the Georges tear them apart... only when the numbers game started and the Georges ran out of dives the enemy started to get kill too...

looking at the number of enemy fighter units there are quite a lot of CV/CVL/CVE in the area... notice the difference to the previous engagement? The Franks are as skilled as the Georges and came in at the same alt but after not even halve a dozen dives the dive idiocy ended... result was less than a 1:1 for the Franks with lots more damaged and being lost on the way home or being write offs... the unimportant dive as always, how dare you?

just to see the third fighter unit getting into a pretty much never ending dive loop, downing one Hellcat after another...

end result was a solid 3:1 for the IJ fighters as we have lost roughly a dozen fighters on the way home... sweep one and three alone would have pushed the ratio up to somewhere near 6:1 but the second sweep suffered without the dive...

next attack with an adjusted av totally in our favour but just the next attack that shreds our troops while the enemy can't retreat... guess we're up to 4000 squads destroyed/disabled now... a couple thousand more and we will finally have killed that enemy Army if it's not going to be relieved but in all seriousness I doubt the enemy has anything even close to strong enough to compete with what I have in India as the Allied losses in the Indian campaign of 43 and the Allied counter attack in 44 were just too high...

when we have cleared both the Jessore and Poona pocket I expect India to become a secondary theatre that won't pose much of a threat as I just can't see the enemy having the troops to wage the usual landwar in India and following into Burma... with the first succesful attack into the Marshall I guess Island hopping will be what the Allied will do as they can bring enough troops to take one island after another...

Heavy Industry hits 1


Calcutta has been one of few bases in India that has always been defended by fighters but the USAAF wants to destroy all India's industry that is held by the Japanese. That doesn't really concern me, even if the Allied would succeed doing so but Calcutta is defended as I don't want to have the airfields and port destroyed even though keeping up the damaged would be hard if not impossible for the Allied as they have to base their B-29 on Ceylon. I doubt we will see such a strike again as it pretty much looks like an early real life attempt of high flying B-29 that can't hit the broadside of a barn from that height with the exception that we have 200 competitive fighters over the city to defend it against the beasts. The bomber formations were picked up by radar at max range and it was an insanely long engagement against the bomber formation. To my suprise the Allied bombers came in as one full wave, no follow up waves at all. Must have been the first fully coordinated strike over such a distance with such a number of bombers I've seen so far. I didn't expect my fighters to do that well but in the end we claim dozens of B-29 as many damaged ones crashed on the way home. Some three dozen were destroyed directly over Calcutta. Note that we have four AA units at the base, none could reach the bombers at 30k ft as that's above the crappy 75mm AA gun's ceiling. But then, bombers can't hit the target from that height either.

At the end of the day we claim four dozen B-29 shot down, a 65% loss rate. That's nearly a three months' replacement of the B-29 even though all his squadrons came fully equipped. Enemy pool got to be empty now. 19 fighters lost but only 7 pilots so that engagement was a full success. I really fear the B-29 due to their extreme range and bomb load so I cheer about every bomber lost and losing that many is nothing to shrug off easily. On the other side, Mundy must have hundreds and hundreds of B-17/B-24 that haven't seen real action.

that attack was the real reason to post that day's combat... it was yet again a bloody one (for us) as we have yet again way over 1000 squads/guns/vehicles disabled... the destroyed ones aren't really a prob as I rotate units all the time so they aren't attacking with lots of disabled squads but if this goes on like this then it will surely take another 5 or 6 attacks at least to finally see the enemy surrender... I could court martial myself for surrounding the enemy Army at Poona as it just turned the Allied units into super troops... if I had just let them take the base, surround them and attack we would have seen all surrender on day one... that way we will take ten thousand disabled squads/guns/vehicles until the enemy will surrender while being fully cut off in an enemy base...

even just forcing them to retreat would have been better with my three tank divs and all tank rgts in pursuit we would have trashed them in two or three attacks leaving the units as ghosts if we wouldn't totally destroy them... oh well, trying to find a positive, I have no doubt we will kill them in the end so these units will be destroyed without any hope to ever rebuild them... another disaster for the Allied as they must be totally outnumbered by IJ forces on the ground already...

just think about the supply it takes to get all that IJA stuff out of disabled state again, must be a couple of ten thousand supply points... [8|]

the enemy stack is down to 61 units so roughly 90 died to bombing, starvation and our attacks in the region... a big part of the US ground forces is dying in India... if there wouldn't be the Soviets activated in mid 45 I'd declare the war as won, not because we achieved an autovictory a year ago but because I can't see the Allied having enough ground troops to go onto the offensive big style in the Pacific due to the lack of ground troops... of course there will still be enough units to attack but probably not from several directions and not several targets at once...

small supply convoy going to Port Blair... the Indian Ocean is safe, as soon as we have destroyed the remaining Allied troops in the pocket of Poona and around Jessore I doubt we will see any Allied offensive into Burma at all due to the lack of troops... and to dislodge us from India will take a looong time if the enemy even tries to do so... so holding Port Blair with a good number of troops probably hasn't got any value at all...

that British bugger is spotted by our subchasers which can do some harm in a shallow base hex... 2 direct Type 2 DC hits and 6 near misses forced the sub onto the surface... the funny thing then happening was the sub beating up the two attacking subchasers with the 4 inch deckgun while the subchaser had nothing but AA guns to return fire... if not being at Singapore one of the SC would sink due to damage... the sub was reported to slip beneath the waves so I expect it to be sunken...

cut off for months, bombed and bombarded daily, I wonder where the Allied get any supplies to do that kind of damage with their bombardments... it's not FOW, my leading div is really taking these losses...not really concerning me but still wondering... no supply path as the hex got only Japanese held hexsides, no coastal hex and no air supply... the Allied artillery must be using catapults and rocks to do that kind of damage to my leading division...

as a sidenote, the enemy is losing so many troops to starvation in the Jessore pocket each day that we score an average of 70 points for Allied ground losses each day...

If the enemy knows that the minefield is there, they will avoid it. Any mines laid during any day, no matter by how many ships, is considered one minefield. To do something that might work, lay another small minefield then see what happens.

I know that but Singapore has the biggest minefield in the Empire and subs pass through it at will. On the contrary Hakodate which has only some 150 mines and there were several subs hitting a mine passing through. Not that the mine hits would have really hurt them but still.

There was like halve a dozen subs or more in Singapore's hex just last turn. Considering the number of available mines in the game it would be like a mine field having thousands of mines if you transform it into real life numbers. Mines were crazy in WITP and the pendulum completely swung the other side in AE. Minefields could effectively block areas in real life.

Yes but it also depends upon narrow straights or not as well as how the game depicts them as protecting a port. Between Fusan and Japan was also mined and US subs until they developed special sonar would not even attempt passage through the straits there.

Allied carriers are returning to the Marshalls, I expect another invasion coming soon... Mundy had parked a good number of CVEs West of Roi Namur for an eternity, would I have committed super KB into the area it would have been a massacre... guess the CVEs were covering the unloading at Roi Namur against LBA strikes, when the CVEs moved East it was a day or two later when we first picked up major Allied carrier movement going towards the Marshalls again... not spotted any amphib convoys but I guess we will know better within the next couple of days...

funnily enough the search settings are amusing me again... there's always the question about the nav search / rest percentage, range, archs or no archs etc... the first day I had three units on search when they picked up the Allied carriers and we lost a dozen search aircraft... then, as usual I stand most down and only had a 8 plane Jake unit on 10% search at 10 hexes without any archs set... we spot four different carrier task forces and lose 4 Jakes of that unit, 2 in the morning, 2 in the afternoon... having set the unit with 8 operational Jakes to 10% nav search... go figure... [:D]

the TF East of Roi Namur is an outbound convoy heading towards Hawaii...

only posting this day as the 4th Tank Div arrived in Japan today... was looking forward to having another tank div joining the three in combat already but looking at it's TOE I'm rather disappointed as it looks completely different than 1st, 2nd and 3rd Tank Div... [:(] it's more like a tank brigade with more or less no heavy artillery or infantry...
