I would like to raid Hokkaido, but I don't feel I have the fighter strength to do it yet.

Challenge from me: what likely opposition will you face?

You'll know as well as I do just how much of desert NorPac is for Japan in terms of assets in early '42. The scary stuff (Betty's and Zeros) look well occupied in other theatres.

I've tried Nates and Jeans against Allied CV raids, and it didn't go well.

Also no requirement for a raid to involve carriers. Destroyers are ideal for this, and the bases on Hokkaido are not ideal for dive bombers.

I have built up lots of fuel for ops at Midway...

I haven't spotted the KB in 2-3 days and suspect they are heading to Wake. Removing Lex and E back to prevent any CV clash on unfavorable terms.

Will start the Hokkaido operation...

That seems a good move. A handful of destroyers is a fair price to pay to inform Japan that you're willing to make deep sorties.

What's better yet for the Allies is that it requires a fairly hefty effort from Japan to close NorPac off to single ship raiders...

Supersized Jake squadrons on LowNav can take on destroyers.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

Last we left TF San Francisco, their support had stopped short of Geraldton...and they struggled in their previous fight as they were expecting to do a shore bombardment...

when behold another Jintsu shows up...and with fresh long lances!

Day Time Surface Combat, near Geraldton at 49,141, Range 25,000 Yards

Allied aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft losses
SOC-1 Seagull: 3 destroyed

Japanese Ships
CL Jintsu, Shell hits 2
DD Oshio
DD Yamagumo, Shell hits 2
DD Satsuki, Shell hits 1

Allied Ships
CA Indianapolis, Shell hits 19, heavy fires
CA San Francisco, Shell hits 25, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk
DD Shaw, Shell hits 3
DD Downes, Shell hits 3, heavy fires
DD Cassin, Shell hits 1

Indianapolis exhausts her fuel storage...or it is damaged in the fights...will be tricky to save her. All the Destroyers still have 3k+

Image

Those IJN destroyers near Exmouth are 11 hexes directly away from Geraldton...will look for more daytime fights I think.

The P40s swept the retreating IJA forces from Perth encountering both Oscars and Zeroes...they did ok in the fight, but the op losses make this a win...

Mildly optimistic right now...the 66th Corp is 78 miles away from their key defensive position...would add 36 more AT guns! Can they get there before the big assault? Probably not.

What do the big red crosses in the Japanese rear mean? Are you marking the places on the map where exceptionally bad rolls struck your Chinese guys, so that you never set foo there again? [:)]

Those are hexes we are cutting the line of supply from. You can't eliminate supply getting to the front, but you can cause wastage and delay...plus it will force Japan to clear them up buying time and dilution of effort.

Rockhampton...what is happening?

I think Rockhampton is the more likely target. Bundaberg is that much closer to Brisbane and could be interdicted by your bombers and fighters more easily. I think Rockhampton has a better SPS for air base development? He can bomb Brisbane industry quite easily from the Rock.

That's too few of them cockroaches? IMO every small Chinese corp should 1/3 and run around the border waiting for the opportunities
