Guadalcanal Campaign - better UV or AE?

Post by RFalvo69 »

A friend of mine is reading my borrowed copy of "Neptune's Inferno - The U.S. Navy at Guadalcanal" and he is interested in refighting the campaign. WitP: AE has a "Solomons" scenario, but there is also Uncommon Valor to consider - a game totally devoted to this campaign. I don't have it but I remember reading great things about it back in the day. I also suspect that UV can be a bit simpler.

Thoughts?

Although UV is simpler, it is a much older game and is not as refined as AE. AE has a Guad scenario, and trust me, when that is done, you will want to move on to bigger and better, so save the money you would spend on UV and just go ahead and get AE.

+1
This game (AE) usually goes on sale around Christmas and can be had at a bargain.

The Marianas are Saipan, Tinian & Guam.

Guadalcanal is in The Solomons.

IMVHO, Guadalcanal is the best small scenario in WITPAE, both sides have offensive & defensive tasks. Makes a better 2 player game.

UV is a child of its time, possibly one of the best when released. But the inability to correct a myriad of historical inaccuracies left it behind the newer offerings.
