Changing stacking order possible?

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Changing stacking order possible?

Anyone knows how to change/choose which unit is "on top" of the stack?

Nope, it's ordered by unit ID with highest on top, period.

Just one example of WitE's poor GUI. Let's hope WitE2 put more effort into the GUI instead of just focusing on fine tuning combat, OOB and logistics, which is all most wargames ever focus on. Too many grognards, not enough gamers.

Not entirely sure why it matters? You get no benifit from the order you are stacked in and there can only be three.

I do agree the GUI could be improved, almost every game can. Oh! I'll ignore the last sentence.

Just in case, you can easily pick the unit you want to become the active unit by selecting it in the right bar (and deselecting the others)

Yes, this could be improved but not in my top priorities list

I don't think it's possible but you can press ctrl+1 to highlight all your HQ units to spot them easily.

*EDIT: and the color code is explained in the "administration/hotkeys" menu (together with all hotkeys) which is also accessible with shift+h

adds to fog of war!

I btw have no issues with it.

i would though like a toggle to show units id's instead of troop strength and mp's.

Fog of war for my own units? [8|]

I would like to see a "move to top of stack" feature line in Panzer Campaigns for a number of reasons. For instance, I might like to move all my air bases to the top of the stacks. Or I might like to move all my cavalry units to the top, or perhaps all the armor units. In general, being able to change the stacking order could prove useful in finding types of units.

Using the control + # keys works. And as BrianG says it can be used in creative ways to obfuscate units, especially if your opponent is lazy in recon.

I looked in the hotkey list and did not see these. I tried using it on a stack and nothing happened.

[edit] Never mind. I took the + and # literally.

[second edit] OK, now I try ctrl-1, ctrl-2, etc. and nothing happens.

I should have clarified what “working” entails. It lets you see unit types in the stacks without being able to see the cards. Only at I believe detection level 3 and above. The same information can’t always be gleaned by a hover over.

A bug with the game is that if you have a non combat unit adjacent to an enemy (by moving a stacked combat unit with it), it will be highlighted red and disable all other highlighting. In fact, pressing ctrl+# in this situation will flicker all other highlights for a split second.

That's not what I wanted. I want to be able to see my own units. I repeat: it would be good to have a "move to top of stack" function like in John Tiller's Panzer Campaigns.

Unfortunately some of the map info buttons prevent any of the ctrl-# functions from displaying, namely the Toggle Rail, Unit or Isolated.

As has been said Ctrl-1 will show all your HQ, hovering shows info on them.
