What determines which epochs you get?

Is there any reason why you end up with tech epochs, crisis of passion, fanaticism, etc?


Are they unique for each player?

I think they are random, but they alternate between positive and negative ones.
Last time I checked, they were unique for each player.

The alternation is random. I just got two positive in a row. And got three negatives in a row sometime before.

I've turned these off but I actually like them, especially if AI had something remotely similar I'd turn it back on.
