Best ways of dealing with crime syndicate?

They seem quite problematic, what are the best strategies of dealing with them?

Just as you recruit a new brigade activate the "crackdown on crime" card.

Lots of troops present in city are needed, those gangsters can be nasty. There will be casualties and unrest generated, but the crims should get wiped out.

If not then repeat.

Note that it won't update the crime info until next turn.

Honestly, I don't play with them anymore because I think it's hot garbage.

Specifically, once they start a war, somehow you can't use the crackdown on crime cards anymore or interact with them in any way. They turn into something like an elite Taliban capable of destroying tank units out in the field. Wat? You have to wait until the godfather wants to talk to you, then you can maybe re-establish contact so you can finally actually kill them.

This makes no sense to me and that's why I think it's hot garbage. I think the game would be better with it. I mean, why have a checkbox that basically says "make the game worse"? Crime syndicate is anti-thematic, uninteresting, and plain frustrating. Adds nothing of value to the game experience.

Hopefully there have been improvements or radical changes and someone can tell me my information is out of date and wrong. But until then, that's my opinion and my advice to others: Don't play with them.
