Officer Pool

Post by MarcA »

When I look at changing the officers in charge of a US Army HQ's I see that all US Army HQ's have the same pool of officers to choose from. Whether they be air, corps, army or cmd HQ's. The pool at the start of the game is also very small, half a dozen officers.

Does this pool grow over time? Or are these all the officers I have to choose from for the game?

I don't know, but I wouldn't worry about it, I don't think HQ officers make much of an impact game wise. I don't remember ever spending any PPs on them.

Thanks for that. I'll put that on the back burner.

More officers do arrive with delayed arrival dates, at least for the major countries involved.
If you scroll through the leaders database in the editor for the scenario you are playing you can spot the ones that arrive during the war.
Some starting leaders with poor stats are worth replacing.
Currently playing my first PBEM, no house rules Scenario 1 as IJ.

The quality of the HQ Leader may be important in getting air strike coordination or the HQ bonus in LCU combat. But in my estimate, the leaders of the LCUs and Air Units are more important so use your PPs there first.

Unless the leader is really bad and you plan on using his units heavily, such as if you decide to tryand hold Singapore.

I didn't pay much attention to Air HQ leaders either, but eventually it just seemed that US Air units were performing poorly in the India/Burma theatre. BGEN Carlson was the leader on arrival, and if you just look at his stats on the unit screen, they seem OK, pretty good even (top image). But when I clicked on his name, that's when the "Air Skill" showed up.......

Interesting. My 10th USAAF HQ arrived with a BGen Dobbs in command, with an air rating of "7".

Yeah, historically it arrived under the command of Brereton. At least he's a selectable option.

That officers problem is that he does not know where to put the bayonet on the aircraft.

The bayonet goes on the nose, for ramming attacks.

That makes it a spear!

Would it be better to attach sabers to the props so you really could slice your enemy up? That would truly be Air Cavalry!

Already found a few leaders that should have been changed long ago.
