The Submarine Arm of the Kaigun has been busy feeding off of Allied shipping. One of the first things I do as a Japanese Player is recall my SS and change their lousy skippers with AGGRESSIVE leaders! Here is the last week or so:

Definitely a problem with the sub war. I watch the slow rise in VP and start thinking about how many more points John will get for Bataan. Since we just got into May42 the USA is starting to get some DD upgrades which will help the sub war. Also allies have 0 anti asw air over 50% trained. Sub war may come under control by August.

I noticed the allies have some subs w single planes. Interesting. So I have dispatched these subs to provide air search over allied convoys to increase detection levels on the jap subs. Not sure this was the intent of this ship mod.. These subs also have big surface guns. Hmmm maybe we can have a sub on sub surface combat!!!

Did a little spanking on those boys a few turns ago and dropped 12 of the AVG. Progress!

Yes--The American start with additional 'experimental' large subs built in the 20s. A total of 3 sets of 3 V Subs are built: 3 Argonauts, 3 Narwhal, and 3 Flying Fish. The Flying Fish carry a single small floatplane appropriately named--the Gadfly.

Those SS are antiquated by 1941 but these big, bad boys have 'interesting' uses...

In replacing the starting IJN commanders with more aggressive leaders, you will see many more surface attacks. Sometimes they are smart, other times NOT SO MUCH!

That is the NORTH PACIFIC, might they be a large Pod of Humpback Whales??? That seems pretty plausible to me.

April 11, 1942

That pod of Humpback Whales sends greetings to a lonely AG at sea. A strike of 13 Zero and 7 Vals hit it with six bombs sinking the target.
