Aviation support

Post by LGKMAS »

Okay,
this is puzzling me. I have three BFs at Akyab, each of which shows an Aviation support of 16 . 3 x 16 = 48. I have checked to see if there are any HQ units at Akyab that would contribute their own Aviation support and there are none.
yet The screen for Akyab clearly shows I have 96 Aviation support elements there. It enables me to support 83 aircraft, essential for keeping off Japanese air raids. For that, I am thankful but can anyone explain to me why 48 turns into 96?

Size 8 & 9 airbases double the aviation support present at a base.

That is interesting. Do you have a manual reference for that?

I believe that was added in one of the older versions. It won't be in the manual....GP

It was added in one of the patches.

WhatsNew.pdf page 19:

1. AF of 8+ have AV support doubled for purposes of determing support for air operations

The other wrinkle is that the mouseover of the LCU icon for the base will show V=48 - no doubling. The base screen has it right.

Thanks for that. It explains why I could not find it in the manual.
Are there any other changes due to patches? I have looked at all the folders that were installed when I installed the game and I can't see anything like what you describe. Is there a link somewhere to what each patch fixes?

EDIT: Found the patch list on the Tech Spt page but they all seem to be dated or refer to Patch upgrades, ie 22/6/2012 Patch 011e rather than 18. 19, etc. Where exactly is this change?

EDIT 2:
Finally found it. The PDF appears on my Windows screen when I click on that windowy thingyabobby and scroll down to WITPAE and expand that. I can't seem to find it in the WITPAE folder under Windows explorer. Now I will have to scroll through all the various entries and try and make sense of them. Apart from this one, most seem to be of the "I found a bug and fixed it" type of report. Are there any real changes to things that matter. Scrolling through 134 pages and looking at each one of the entries is not really appealing.

It really is very simple. I just don't understand why you are creating a problem when one doesn't exist.

Ever since the time of DOS, any file titled "Readme" mean s exactly that, read it. Your main WIPT:AE folder has these files:

"Readme" (a Micorsoft Office document clearly stated)

"Readme" (a Rich Text Format)

"WhatsNew" (an Adobe Acrobat Document)

All three files contain the consolidated patch notes. All can be digitally searched using a keyword. Changes to the rules made after the manual was printed and the game released are obviously not going to be found in the manual. That is the purpose of reading the patch notes.

Alfred,

The problem is that some people usually don't read the instructions. I don't know why and it is usually men as well. I have learned to read the instructions. I also have learned to ask for directions as well even though I do know how to read a map.

Cheers,

Joe.

Some people learn by reading and listening - scholars and the like. Some learn by seeing and interacting with the environment - handymen and others who use visual cues more than coded (written) data. Men also tend to be 'doers' who just want to get at the task rather than on the prep for a task. They will take direction if it gets them to the info they want in one step, but multi-step tasks to get info is just frustrating to them.

And then there are old farts like me whose eyes swim at long paragraphs of instructions (or changes) and cannot stay focused enough to follow through before losing my place. Wasn't a problem 10 years ago but it is now ...[:(]
Alfred's info about being able to search will help with that - thanks!
