Is the manual up to date ?

Post by nukkxx5058 »

Is the manual which is given with the download files up to date or is there somewhere a revision (official or not) including all patches/changes like we have for WITE?

My manual file is 10,024 KB
Is that the latest version ?
Thx

Nope...it's not up to date. Better info is found on the forums.

In a word: no.

But definitely read the manual but there have been some changes. Look at the patch notes in the readme file.

A lot of the manual is technically correct, but does not go far enough into the specifics. Read the manual to get the gist of the game and keep it handy for the charts in the back about reloading costs and such. Then come to the forums and search for specific information. Lots of people here can explain what the manual means or what has changed since that was created.

There is WhatsNew.pdf in the game folder, check it out for things introduced after the manual was finalized

Is the manual fully up-to-date, reflecting all changes ever? No. Is any manual for any game, ever? No.

As a new player, the manual is your best friend. It might not seem like it, but it is. Read it once, read it twice, read it again. It contains vanishingly few outright falsehoods, although, yes, there are omissions here and there. Overall, it's still 95%+ correct, and for a new player, that's MUCH more than you need. I've been playing this thing for 1000 years, and I still learn new stuff. Has the lack of total understanding of everything impacted my enjoyment or my ability to perform adequately? No.

The biggest mistake new players make is they think the game requires mods and chrome to make it better. It doesn't, and here's why. This is a game that was supported - on his own time - by the programmer for YEARS after the official release, and the vast majority of bugs have been eliminated. Many games are so buggy that mods are REQUIRED in order to make them work properly, but that is emphatically not the case with WitP-AE. In fact most AE mods earn their chops by adding additional layers of complexity to an already daunting game. For YOU, the new player, that is absolutely the LAST THING you need.

Learn the game using the as-delivered scenarios and interface. At some point in the future, once you have at least a vague idea what you are doing, then you can think about mods. Oh, and as for relying on the forum for correct information? Trust me, the accuracy of what you get here will be less than the 95% available from the manual. The forum has it's place, and an important one, but it shouldn't be your first stop.

I just bought WITP and I find the manuel more easy to read than the WITE manuel more easy going form

Still need to read the manual. This game has a 'learning cliff', shortcuts won't cut it.
