Disband and experience

Post by Sieppo »

So if I disband a unit, it's experience is obviously lost, since the men go to the reserve pool?

Subunits in the SHQ reserves maintain their experience. If you scrap subunits rather than just disbanding a formation, they will be returned to the population and in that case their experience will be lost.

Wow thanks! Need to disband some units after a won war.

If you disband your Formations or Units, the subunits will go back into the SHQ - Experience and all - to be used for "use SHQ Troops" during formation rasing or as reinforcements. Indeed they will even start training each other in the SHQ.

You do of course still pay food and money for them. But then you do the same thing for recruits. So all you save is logistics to send supplies to them.

Unit feats however are lost, as they are currently tied to specific units.

After hundreds of hours of playtime this game still manages to impress me [:D]..

In your capital, there is "SQ unit". if you click on it you will see all your reserve units. They are deployed as subunits of your SQ unit.
They help to defend your capital too.

Ahhhh! This was total news also to me! Thanks!

EDIT: I was actually wondering how they appear there in that unit and sometimes dont..

BTW, do they use themselves as replacements? Or do I always need to have rookies for that?

Any subunit ins the SHQ will be used as replacements, as long as there is no rule preventing that (model not allowed).

Indeed the "Replacement Units" screen, simply spawns the subunit in the SHQ to go out as Reinforcements.

I have some obsolete companies in my SHQ that I cannot upgrade for some reason, for instance artillery with a smaller calibre than the improved version, don't know if that is the reason though, but they do have some experience on them.

What do I do with them?

For the moment I put them in some independent battalion to serve as garrison in my backyard, but is there no way to equip those men with state of the art stuff?

Non-infantry troops can't be upgraded, they can only have their equipment replaced. You can recruit new artillery and then use the Replace function (right next to Upgrade) on the more experienced troops to have them swap gear with the green troops in the SHQ. Then you can either scrap the green troops who now have the older gear, or use the gear for secondary fronts or to train up the new guys.

Thank you.

I see a whole new micromanagement game of creating training formations with the appropriate Stratagem Field Training to use that old equipment and prepare your recruits for the front :-)

Now it looks like some inf units (around 20) are stuck on disband and it has also killed the logistics in the surrounding area. Been this like 10 turns now. Any suggestions?

What precisely do you mean with "stuck"?
Are they at 0 but not disbanding?
Are the subunits not sent to the SHQ?
Why is your Logistics killed?

They are stuck at disband, just not at 0. I think it might have more to do with a total logistic bottleneck around my capital which I'm now trying to solve. No replacements are moving etc. I think my empire just got too big for one SQH..

I actually have no idea in what logistics group those troops would flow, but I guess it might be under replacements (despite this being the oppposite of replacements).

And as you were bottlenecked at the SHQ, that kinda prevented any relevant Logistics being left for replacements.
