May 1941 Invasion Scenario

Post by jredmon »

Been playing WITE since the beginning and played War in Russia before that. Love this game and have invested hundreds of hours for the past 30 years between the 2 of them!

I have always wanted to see a scenario where Germany was able to invade in May 1941 without having to do the detour into the Balkans and Yugoslavia did not have a coup. Would this be a possible scenario option for WITE 2? Not sure if we can accurately identify the balance of forces for both sides for this but would be very interesting to play!

The editor does not allow start dates before June 22 1941, but that's something we may look to adjust in a future expansion. Any scenario that started in May would probably be dealing with muddy conditions. I seem to recall reading somewhere that really good conditions didn't exist until early June that year, but I'm not sure.

Indeed.

What I have read there were 2 main things for postponement of Op Barbarossa. AFAIK it was originally planned in May.

One what that Luftwaffe was not able to complete construction of enough airfields in time (mainly because of Balkan operations) and second was flooding of Bug-river and indeed muddy conditions in East Poland/West Russia.
