warspite1 (Allies) vs AllenK (Axis) Full Campaign

Post by warspite1 »

This game uses the default settings that the game starts with.

The game begins with the Axis so the Allies don't get to show their starting positions. So I've gone into another game as the Axis so that I can see what I begin with (I think I'm right in saying that that is always the same and not variable like with World In Flames for example.

1st September 1939
Axis Turn 1

The valiant, but doomed, Polish Army. It's deployment, governed largely by the need to protect the industrial areas and allow mobilisation to be completed, plays straight into German hands.....

Meanwhile in China I seem to have a lot of units nicely in position to be enveloped by the Japanese....

A decision to be made (although frankly I don't think there is much of a decision to be made).... I say yes.

As do the Soviets... and again I don't think there is much of a decision to mull over. I've beaten the Japanese and will shortly conclude a cease-fire so my victorious armies are free to march into the east of Poland and grab our share of the booty.

The Poles appear to have taken something of a pasting.

Losses
1 x Army
3 x Cavalry Brigades

Still never, mind, I'm sure the French and British will attack in the west imminently... right?....

Iirc, reinforcement means no movement for that unit. So I need to be careful what I reinforce here.

Actually on second thoughts I don't think it matters a damn as I have nothing to defend the capital with anyway. So I just reinforce the bombers and fighters and move almost all units back to the capital as much as I can. I hope surrounding the German panzer corps has some effect but I'm not holding out too much hope of this...

I then send my bombers against said panzer corps but they get creamed in the process....

Meanwhile chez China, the action appears to have taken place largely in the south with the loss of a corps northwest of Changsha and an expansion of territory north of Hainan via the taking of the port of Pakhoi.

Losses
1 x Army Corps

I reinforce some understrength units and keep movement largely to a minimum.

I reinforce as many French units as I can.

I do nothing with the British, US, USSR or India as I want to build up MPP to give me more options as to what to do next.

The Royal Navy and French Navy destroyers head for the convoy lanes.

Let's see what fun times are in store for the Allies next turn....

The Red Army cross into Eastern Poland and the Polish morale nosedives.

The British have a decision to make and I decide to go with what I wish had happened and not the historical. I say No. The British troops in India are free to move to the Western Desert as a result.

The Poles continue to take an absolute pounding, although at least there appeared to be some hurt meted out to the Germans.

Losses
2 x Armies
1 x Cavalry Brigade
1 x Garrison

Three armies remain - I need to get the Modlin Army into Warsaw, while the other two - Lodz and Krakow Armies - are surrounded and will have to try and block further German advance.

The Modlin Army, now in Warsaw, is reinforced to the maximum - but no other reinforcements are available this turn, leaving 11 unused points.

The Japanese continue to concentrate their efforts in the south, expanding their bridgehead on the coast while destroying Chinese forces defending the Changsha area. Another corps is lost here.

Things looks distinctly uncomfortable for the Chinese. In trying to keep hold of Changsha, I don't want to be surrounded from the south.

I put the newly arrived II Corps southwest of Changsha, bring in a corps from the army group to the north.

Two corps guard the river line south and west of Nanning, but in doing this, I have just a garrison in Kweilin. Chinese fighters are brought south to try and help the troops here.

I reinforce a couple of units, but the bulk of Chinese expenditure goes on research of Infantry Weapons (175 points - ouch).

The French continue to reinforce. I don't know whether I should be researching with the French or whether this is a waste of points. I think it better to have boots on the ground.

The British research anti-tank weapons (100 points) and use the remaining points to build up the BEF. Destroyers remain on patrol.

The Soviets research infantry weapons (175 points) but nothing else.

The US do nothing as their points are too low at present.

As I advance the turn on I get the message the Krakow Army is lost...

I then get a Decision to make. I answer no as per historical.
