First game
Hi, started my first game. I think I now understand phases at last! Wasn't playing to win, just to get an understanding of MWIF. Unfortunately I hit a brick wall on the land combat resolution phase.
Played it twice and can't get past it. The first time, I tried to return the ground attack aircraft after the 'att fly to ground target' but was left with a propeller noise that wouldn't go away. Couldn't find this air unit, abandoned the game and started again because the end phase button was greyed out.
This time, I have no propeller noise. All my planes are back. I am stuck on 'combat resolution'. It's all set up but the advance phase button is greyed out. It's stuck. What am I doing wrong?"

RE: First game
I think some screen shots would help. These aren't phases that normally cause a problem. Are you able to post a step by step? Sometimes forms can get stuck behind the main screen - but I can't recall that during these phases (certainly not recently) and that doesn't account for the noise you are hearing - which I've never encountered before.

As to the propeller noise, perhaps he has a cutaway video in the background. I usually turn those off as they are distracting.

Hi,
There are no videos or hidden windows in the background.
I got to the ground support air attack phase, carried out the attacks and was prompted to return the planes to base. Did this and am now on this phase...

This is just a sequence of play. When I say screen shots I am talking about what you are actually seeing in game now you've landed the planes and the program moves to the land combat sequence. What happened once the planes landed?

RE: First game
As you can see, I've selected some ground assaults and here is where I get stuck...
The assaults have been selected but the main form phase details etc are now blank. I cannot end/continue because the end phase button is greyed out.

RE: First game
Right so that's well and truly ****** and whatever the problem is is before this phase.
So are you able to go back to the Land Combat Declaration phase using the Auto Saves (Axis) and then run through a step by step so I can see what you are clicking on in each phase from the time you've chosen the combat hexes?

If assault for the attack has been selected then, I suspect, that the program is waiting for a die roll from the program for the assault. Could it be that a die roll window is hidden beneath another window?

I have another idea...
Left click on one of the attacks on the "Land Combat Selection & Resolution" form. The row that says "Poland 52,49" for example. Then, I hope, you will get a box on that form that says something like "select attack".

Have you looked at the Land Combat Selection and Resolution table in the extreme right of the picture? Half of it is not populated. This looks like more than just a screen behind the main screen.

I think this may be part of the problem. The screenshot above is what I actually see. I am running a single monitor setup and that's all I get. However when I took that screenshot and opened it in gimp, the image showed more desktop space to the right which isn't actually visible to me. In there is the Land combat selection/resolution window which I was expecting. I just can't get to it. Ignoring the fact that everything seems greyed out on it, I would guess this is a monitor/resolution in game setup thing.

RE: First game
You are too fast for my slow posting! No more pictures now so I should be quicker. Checked the windows settings - 1 monitor as expected. Will check the game setting to see if there's anything in there.
RE: First game
Ahh, more than happy to chat through potential issues with playing the game and clicking the right things, but if its to do with monitors and resolutions and gimp(?) then that is the cue for me to butt out as that technical stuff goes way above my head. Sorry.

I don't think there are any options within the game itself for monitor options. Bit stumped.

Okay so if you have the time/energy to go through the step by step I mentioned in post 7 then I will ne happy to look at this with you.

This image is what I expect you to see in this step. Here you (Axis) select which of the 5 combats you begin with.ORIGINAL: wobbleguts

Edit: And I expect it to be the active window. Not greyed out.

I think I recall that some have had issues with the 'window bar' below. Maybe you should try again with it hidden?

RE: First game
Problem solved!
It was a problem with the PC, not the game. I originally had a raedeon graphics card. It died ages ago and I switched to the Mboard video port.
Never had a problem until MWIF. The windows settings were all ok, no options for monitors in the game itself (wasn't really expecting any). There was a raedeon icon in the toolbar and in there it was set to extended monitor. Unchecked that and - bingo problem fixed (even though I got an error message to say the card wasn't responding).
I just assumed I was doing something wrong in the game.
Apologies.

RE: First game
I think this problem has been seen many times before, so I believe it's a matter of the way the game behaves, not the pc.
A lot of complains on the green button not on, to go next phase, used to come from forms not shown along the time. Yesterday we had to load once because of this, I remembered there had been a solution for this "display out of the range of the screen but didn't remember which. I think it has to do with the way the game handlings display, in order to offer playing the game in one or multiple screens.
Will try playing with video settings next time and switching one/more screens. Thanks for bringing this up.

RE: First game
I'm guessing most people play MWIF with dual/extended monitors?
