Port Moresby woe ...

Post by Pocus »

Hey

It strikes me a bit too ahistorical to have Port Moresby neutral until the Japanese DOW Guinea, and then allow them to take it with 100% certainty because there is no garrison.

Perhaps adding a token force, like str 3 garrison to represent that the Port never fell and the Japanese did not directly land to take it, but tried first to take other locations? There is probably a reason for that, and I'm sure a WITP fan can tell us what is the initial garrison of the place and who controlled it, Australia?

From the outset, it was formed to garrison Port Moresby, and indeed one of its battalions, the 49th, had been deployed to New Guinea as early as March 1941

This sounds like a good solution imho. This issue with Port Moresby has frustrated me too. Papua New Guinea was under Australian administration at the time, and although because of a game abstraction (which is fine) New Guinea is 'independent ', it should at least have a token defence by an Australian under strength detachment, as illustrated by EarlyDoors.

Good point, I've made a note to change this.

I wish there was a way to have a lively Japan vs Aussie battle on the Kokoda trail. The map even has this legendary path on it.
Are people having battles on Kokoda? Maybe it is hard to reproduce in game cause troops end up in other places each time.

Most of the actual fighting on the Kokoda Trail in 1942 was done using detached regiments and brigades. In this game it would have to be at the corps or divisional level.

Ya much less than corp in size but I think it could have a corp unit on each side for Kokoda given the significance of that little battle. It was kind the apogee of the Japanese war against Australia.
