crashes from convoy line graphics failure

Post by GiveWarAchance »

I had a few crashes from convoy drawing graphics failure. Is that normal or just my computer?
It seems to be the colored convoy lines on the ocean not drawing. I wonder if it is affected by my Axis taking Egypt area and breaking up the UK convoy lines so there is a mix of gray, blue and red convoy lines.

It seems to happen when I nearly finished my turn. God bless the autosave but still is a bummer losing a full turn of detailed activity every now and then.
Pretty sure my game is fully updated but I had to do it manually by downloading and installing patches cause the auto update doesn't work.
using Win7

I guess a workaround is to save several times each turn. It is a pain cause usually I only save when I am shutting down the game for the day.

Sorry to hear the trouble and I would say that is is not normal or at least the first I've heard of this. Could you tell me what resolution you are playing at?

Also, could you send over a saved turn where it happens as well as some details, even if just rough details, of what you were doing and what you did right before the crash? Which part of the map you were scrolling by etc. The error message would also be helpful too.

You can send a saved turn to support@furysoftware.com

Thanks,
Hubert

Okay I got the crash again. It always happens at the end of a turn after I've finished doing everything.

In your user folder for the game there should be an ERROR folder, could you send me the contents of this folder?

You can use WeTransfer to send the file, e.g. https://wetransfer.com

Please send to support@furysoftware.com

Your user folder can typically be found here:

Thanks Hubert. I emailed the ERROR folder and a save file just at the start of the turn that first crash picture happened.
But no rush. Please do your Boxing Day shopping and other activities.

Maybe I can hijack my own thread with another topic.
This is not a bug. I am wondering about the Vichy French partisans that popped up in Corsica and in the large massif of mountains of France. I really liked this event and my beleaguered axis did not expect any partisan help. I read a couple of books about the Vercors partisan base on top of the flat mountain plateau there which required an elaborate German mountain climbing expedition coupled with gliders landing on top to secure the plateau. In the game, partisans appeared in the larger mountain massif further west which I think was far too inhospitable for a base there especially for people not expert in mountain climbing. Also, the hapless partisans there were doomed due to no possible exit or supply so I don't think they could have gathered volunteers there and would vastly prefer the Vercors massif as a base.

I also wonder about Warsaw in the beginning. From the little I know, Warsaw was a tough place to clear for the German army and required artillery be moved up to bombard the defenses, but in the game there is only a spindly garrison putting up a token resistance. I think there should a corp on Warsaw at least but it might tilt the game towards the allies so maybe another tilt back would be needed. Most probably other players don't care cause they want to wrap up Poland asap to quickly get into the meat of the war.

Hi

The Vercors Massif is a partisan hex, but not before January 1944 and only if there are Allied units in France or in/near Poland, London is in Allied hands and the British had invested in S.O.E.

So essentially the overall situation swinging towards the Allies leads to the French setting up a partisan base there.

PS The events there were dramatised in the third series of the TV drama Wish Me Luck. It's worth a watch, though I prefer the first two series.

Thanks Bill. I was also wondering about the Warsaw Uprising. It only showed as a popup event info but I was thinking if a couple of 2 or 3 partisan units popped up in or around it. It was a very hard battle for Germany so I think the battle should be represented although the partisans in game most probably weaker than the real Warsaw uprising troops.

The Warsaw Uprising is more complicated, I have thought about it at times but then it introduces the whole concept of restoring Poland to the map, and then having to work out mechanisms for whether an independent Poland can continue to exist or not as the Red Army advances west.

Is is possible just to treat the uprising like any other partisan appearance on the map? If they persist and no German units are anywhere near them, they can just turn Warsaw into a neutral city to keep it simple or maybe the game always reestablishes capitals to their nation. There is also the Modlin fortifications next to Warsaw they could also inhabit if they have 2 units and try to withstand the German counter. I think the uprising should be at least an army unit or two corps cause it was a significant challenge for the German army to handle and sounds like there were about 50,000 on the Jewish side and a lot of them were very skilled at urban combat. There is an Osprey campaign book about it and a Stackpole book too which are interesting.
