GUI improvements

Post by CapAndGown »

First off, its about time we had pop-up/drop-down menus. For instance, with soft-factors, there should be no need to cycle through all the options to get to the one you want. You should be able to hit the button and have a drop-down menu appear from which you make your choice. This is a widget that can be coded once and then used in any future 2x3 games.

I especially would like to see a drop-down menu for highlighting units of a certain type. For instance, I would like to be able to highlight all my cavalry units, or perhaps all my armor units, etc. I might also like to highlight brigade size units, or corps size units, etc. John Tiller's panzer campaigns has various ways to highlight units, such as units that expended movement points. I think WitE2 should be able to highlight units as well. This would make managing and finding particular types of units much easier and would speed up game play.

I would also like to have a way to cycle through my HQ's so that I can check on what support units they have attached. A "next/previous HQ" button would be nice.

Lot's of GUI improvements have been added including drop down menus - screenshot shows the one for soft factors.

It’s there too, and if I remember correctly was in WitE1. Look on the hot keys: cntrl & a number.

Highlighting in WitE 1 was for enemy units, not your own.

Edit: OK, I take that back. My problem was that I had some other option picked at the same time. I needed to unselect all info stuff and it showed up. Glad I tried it again.

I am seeing in the photos that the historical names of the Luftwaffe organization have been greatly improved, thank you very much for the improvement, this simulation is also for me a living encyclopedia!

Does this have support units like the first WitE? I quit playing because I found them too tedious to manage. If so, will their management be any more user friendly?
Thanks.

Ooops - missed that - sorry.

Support Units are the same as in WitE but their re-allocation and management is I think different and easier (I say that as I haven't played WitE for over 5 years and don't have it installed to be able to check).

Thanks for the answer. If it's a lot easier I'll consider buying.

Hi I'm not a dev or beta tester but from the info they've released/WITW design I think I can be pretty certain that the game will continue to include off-map support units.

I think from a gameplay perspective the options to set HQ support commitment levels and automate the movement up and down the chain worked pretty well as a way of avoiding the Support Unit micro if that isn't your thing.

One bugbear that I had with the SU system as it is in previous versions is that when you click the assign button for a lower HQ to pick an SU from a higher HQ you just had the categories and no way to separate the different individual units. So say if you had a SU that was worn down that you wanted to rest/refit and a healthy SU of the same type that you were transferring from one Army Group to another you couldn't tell them apart and the only way I could see to do it is to move the healthy unit step by step to where you want it to be which entails a lot of additional clicks. For me the SU screen you access in a HQ should be like the screen you get when assigning air groups to an airbase in WITE1

[edit - just thinking about this it was actually better in WITW - it's a while since I played that but I think you did get the individual SUs as I describe]
