Jetpacks/Mobile Shields/Infantry ect. Just put them all on the same tile and do a Transfer/BG on them. I now have an elite unit comprised of all GR unit's I've found this game. Feels good.

Battlegroups have a debuff though, see manual. And combining infantry with tanks disallows them entering mountain hexes without roads.

The good thing is, we have all the information in the reports. The bad thing is, we have all the information. Maerchen, 2020

GR units dont get the Battlegroup debuff, this is kind of what you're expected to do with them.

What is the advantage (other than the minor convenience of having to move less units)?
They count as Militia, don't they, so you can't put them into operational headquarters?

Generally it is better to keep them in seperate units, so you can attack from multiple vectors and cover more ground overall.
Indeed, you may even want to spread them out (like 2 GR Troopers per BG tops).

One unit consisting of a dozen GR era subunits is a lot weaker then those same 12 subunits split over 6 units, allowing them to attack with full encirclement.

It's more of a defensive move. GR units are vulnerable to getting picked off when alone. Of course you could argue to not leave them alone, and I'd agree and say "well that's what I'm doing"

Not only that it lets me put more GR troops with a OHQ to confer those sweet bonuses.

Thank you for pointing that out, as I wasn't aware!

Units suffer penalities when there are less than 4 subformations as well as the normal combat penalties for smaller units getting breakthroughs against them.

Can you go into more detail on this? What is a Subformation? Is this data in the manual?

3.8.1.10
"Keep in mind that Battlegroups might provide flexibility, but also come at some costs. Notably non-GR troops in Battlegroups suffer a -15% on their attack value."

5.10.15.3.
"Battlegroup modifier
If a Battlegroup (or GR) Unit has fewer than 3 Subunits in it, it will suffer a penalty on its Hitpoints. Non-GR troops in Battlegroups suffer a -15% on their attack value."

So try to get them to at least subunit count 3, if you want good surviability.

I think he meant "subunit".

"Subunit" are the discrete units gear and manpower is measured in. It is the smalest entity the game still simulates. Subunits do their fighting, readiness Tracking, Expedrience, death and everything else as one entity.
Each subunit is 100 people - but those can be 100 Infantry men and gear or drivers and support staff for 10 vehicles.

GR battlegroups do not belong to the militia and they can be assigned to OHQs. Concentrating them into fewer battlegroups allows more combat power to be concentrated under one OHQ, to take better advantage of encirclement and leader skill bonuses.
