Monitor tank not available in raise formation

Just researched a monitor tank version but cannot find it in the raise independent formation list. New models always appear at the end of the list but im only seeing the one before it. Any ideas why i cannot field these?

Ahhh it is actually a heavy tank! Why the name monitor? What does it mean?

EDIT: obviously because it is bigger than the heavy tank. But why treat it as one then?

Yeah, its the same as Assault Guns and Medium Tanks both being under Armor formation. Personally I wish they were broken out as its simpler to select and see what you have to choose from.

Yeah it is a bit confusing. Thought it is some super thank because of that extreme vehicles tech etc. Like the "Maus". Maybe it is coming yet.

So that means that if you want to build monitor tanks you go do the following?
Raise Formation >> Independent >> Heavy Tank >> Select Monitor Tank Model

You can also use them in all Heavy Armor formations.

A assault gun in the game is inherently a inferior/cheaper version of the Medium tank.
The Armor, Guns and Engine are identical. You sacrifice Attack ability for halved IP cost, but that can allow you to throw out more.

The same is true for Heavy Tank and Tank Destroyer.

If you go for a Heavy tank, that usually means you want maximum callibre and armor (to defeat enemy heavy tanks). Wich would mean the basic Heavy tank is inherently a inferior thing to the Monitor tank (wich can carry bigger guns and heavier armor).

This is the reason why I was surprised it was considered a heavy tank.
