Dialogue boxes

Post by PeteS »

My problem is the dialogue boxes take forever to load, to make any changes in them also takes forever. When I click on an empty hex, it goes reasonably well. When I click on a city, it again takes a long time to load that screen. The scrolling is better but still slow. Any help? Thanks

Read the thread on slow performance. The very old game engine was designed for a very old version of Windows and old computer hardware. Over time, Windows has changed how it does things and the game has lost some of the Windows things it needed to work properly. To counter this, the programmers came up with scripts called "switches" that you can put in the game shortcut to activate features that connect the game engine with newer Windows features. The thread I mentioned covers just about every kind of problem and shows how to set up the proper shortcut and your switches to make the game run fast.

Don't be daunted, it seems very technical but after you try what is shown in the graphics of the thread it begins to make sense. If you don't want to set all the switches manually you can use the utility called SeaBee to set them for you. Either way you may need to experiment a bit to get the best combination of switches for your system.

Thanks BB, I have been thru that list of switches and have tried a ton of combinations and still no better. The scrolling improved slightly, but the long delay when clicking in the boxes persists. I have sent a dsdial to the admins but I haven't heard back yet. Looking for anything else that might help. I run windows 10, Intel i7.
Thanks

Try peruse the recent threads in this subforum, like that one https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4926838
There is no universal solutions, but there are some command line flags that work more often than not

What work specifically for me WRT slow clicking was -SingleCpuOrders -cpu3

Thanks all. I have heard back from admin, Most of the issues are resolved. Only the screen is small, I have sent a screenshot to them and maybe that will finally be it. Thanks again.
