Never Ending Scenario

Post by wga8888 »

My honorable IJN opponent defeated my USN forces in the Guadalcanal scenario. Scenario description states the last turn would be 7-Feb-1943. We were waiting how the program provides end of scenario information. We were not sure if game actually ended on 7-Feb or on 8-Feb. But after both players submitted orders for 7-Feb, there were results for 7-Feb turn then the file for next turn orders; so we both posted orders for 8-Feb. After that, there were results for 8-Feb then files to create orders of 9-Feb. Apparently the program may not end the scenario; else there is a bug, or some other issue.

We agreed to end as of 7-Feb combat and 8-Feb orders information screens. The corresponding Info was:
Date: February 8 1943
Major Victory (assume IJN)
IJN score 10087
USN score 5742
IJN had captured Milne Bay and PM, with forces of both sides in Lunga with USN with control.

We will now start the Dababes enhanced Guadalcanal scenario. Similar force OOBs, game time-frame extends into April 43; 2.5x the map size. Same if not more scarcity in supply and fuel. Both players have a better sense of how to play better given the things we each did wrong and how things work.

The text description is wrong, you need to look at the preferences screen:

Thanks. This was missed by both players.

So the Dababes version only has a bigger map (2.5x more hexes), two additional small Allied shipyard (Auckland, Melbourne), same forces but about 60% the number of IJN SS, same different plane groups (P38Ds at start), incoming supply/fuel volume & incoming. When playing the same opponent, it is a variation rather than a repeat playing.

In our game, the IJN sunk 2xUSN CVs in early weeks with all air groups. One repaired and hit & sunk later. Also 3xUSN CVEs, a BB, and other limping ships sunk by SS. Safe to assume IJN SS are everywhere (48 in total vs 26 I think in Dababes) with special orders to follow USN CVs

No special orders to follow ships, just patrol orders and destinations.
