Ships and a/c ranges: depending on map magnification?

Post by Zulu »

I am sure somebody has already noticed this, but I have not been able to track it down in the forum:

the ships and aircraft ranges that show up pressing the F3 and F4 keys (i.e. the yellow and green circles for ships and the black and red for aircrafts) are different if viewed in the zoomed map (Z key). What I mean is that the ranges of ships and aircrafts - as marked on the map - seems to depend on the magnification level of the map. Which of course does not make a lot of sense

Could somebody tell me what is the correct range? the one in the zoomed out map or the one in the zoomed in map? or - as I suspect - is there something I do not understand? (it would not surprise me as I picked up the game only a few days ago :) ).

Thanks for your help.

No takers for this question? It should be very easy to answer for anybody who has played even only one game.

Perhaps I was not clear enough. Let's make an example: load scenario 1 as the US. In Port Moresby, you have (among others) a squadron equipped with Hudson: select it. Note the red circle (it should be the Hudson extreme range). The extreme range of the Hudson moving eastward from PM is about hex 30,41.
Now zoom the map (Z key) and do the same operation: the extreme range eastward is somewhere in between hex 19,41 and 20,41 which is 10 hexes (300 miles) less! A similar thing happens for ships.
I am under the impression that the right range is the one that appears on the zoomed out map and that range circles should not be used when the map is zoomed in, but I am not sure.

My question is very simple: is this something that happens only to me (in which case I will try to figure out what I have done wrong) or it is a known issue, or maybe is there an explanation somewhere in the manual and I have missed it?

I should also add that I have the euro version of UV (that shipped already patched to 2.30).

Thanks for your help,

It's just a visual thing. The real ranges don't change, just the range circles. Actually, I didn't think anyone even used the zoom-in feature.

Well I did not want to miss the smallest details of the map ;)
Thanks for the answer.
