1/17/21, 3:21 PM - [Axis]: You can support this attack. I have a 6 strength 109 in interception range

1/17/21, 3:22 PM - [Axis]: roger
1/17/21, 3:23 PM - [Axis]: 3 axis added to that attack

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Axis #8. (Continued).

1/17/21, 3:32 PM - [Allied]: Blitz only increases your PWIN by 1.7%, which is already at 97.7%. Most significantly increases chance CCP Rte army survives from 2 to 44%. Long shot still, but one that I need to take.
1/17/21, 3:33 PM - [Axis]: I agree

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Axis #8. (Concluded).

1/17/21, 3:41 PM - [Axis]: Picking Blitz per instructions
1/17/21, 3:44 PM - [Axis]: <Media omitted>
1/17/21, 3:45 PM - [Allied]: What you know, finally a win for the good guys!
1/17/21, 3:45 PM - [Allied]: Well, if you call the CCP the good guys. 🤨
1/17/21, 3:46 PM - [Allied]: Don't believe you need for the remainder of your impulse?
1/17/21, 3:47 PM - [Axis]: Yea, don't
1/17/21, 3:47 PM - [Axis]: Japan occupies Sian without incident
1/17/21, 3:47 PM - [Allied]: If no, I think I'm calling it a day (gaming wise), going to have an early dinner, or very late lunch, and a cocktail or two. 🍸🥃
1/17/21, 3:49 PM - [Allied]: Though I'm probably going to get my head handed to me eventually, I have to say that this is one of the most enjoyable gaming experience I think I've every had ... (M)WiF or other over my past 50-years of wargaming.
1/17/21, 3:49 PM - [Allied]: Though, the further I go back in time the foggier things get. 🤨
1/17/21, 3:52 PM - [Axis]: This is July/August 1940. The Allies are supposed to be taking a beating. You are a skillful player so I'm sure you've beaten a lot of Axis players in the early game. This one will go deep looks like
1/17/21, 3:52 PM - [Axis]: Turn continues and fine weather in North Monsoon!
1/17/21, 3:53 PM - [Allied]: Know it's a bit early wrt/to historical time ... but the fighting in the Med gives me a gaming glimpse of Operational Pedestal (June 1942).
1/17/21, 3:53 PM - [Allied]: copy.
1/17/21, 3:54 PM - [Allied]: Don't think my impulse will take long; so I may try to get it in later tonight.
1/17/21, 3:54 PM - [Axis]: <Media omitted>
1/17/21, 3:54 PM - [Allied]: Also, don't think I'll be doing anything that will require an axis reactions.
1/17/21, 3:54 PM - [Axis]: no problem, talk to you later or tomorrow
1/17/21, 3:55 PM - [Allied]: So, optimistically, will have the axis impulse impulse ready for you to go tomorrow morning. Know you like to get up early.
1/17/21, 3:55 PM - [Allied]: Better yet, end of turn? If so, assume both Nazi pact chits to offensive.
1/17/21, 3:55 PM - [Allied]: Only 30% chance of that through ... 🤬
1/17/21, 3:56 PM - [Axis]: yes
1/17/21, 3:56 PM - [Allied]: But, that's equivalent to a 300 hitter in baseball getting a hit.
1/17/21, 3:57 PM - [Allied]: ⚾
1/17/21, 3:58 PM - [Allied]: Talk to you tomorrow ... dinner, cocktails and possibly a movie. 🎬

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #9.

1/17/21, 6:15 PM - [Allied]: <Media omitted>
1/17/21, 6:16 PM - [Allied]: Geeze, thanks a lot! 🤬
1/17/21, 6:17 PM - [Allied]: Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #9. CW - combine, France - land, China - land, USSR - combine, US - pass.
1/17/21, 6:23 PM - [Allied]: Naval combat not possible - either side.
1/17/21, 6:24 PM - [Allied]: Strat: RAF Hampden (extended range, 3/2=2) vs Berlin. No axis fighter(s) in position to intercept.
1/17/21, 6:26 PM - [Allied]: d10=2+1=3 (missed).
1/17/21, 6:43 PM - [Allied]: finished my impulse, now the all important end of turn roll (ends on 3 or less).
1/17/21, 6:44 PM - [Allied]: d10=10, turn continues. If only my strat and end of turn rolls could have been reversed. 😧
1/17/21, 6:46 PM - [Allied]: I think I may have come across another bug. Or maybe not. Soviet units can't attack Italian units in Romania. Not that I would want to but is this correct?
1/17/21, 6:47 PM - [Allied]: <Media omitted>
1/17/21, 6:47 PM - [Allied]: JA40, axis impulse 10. back to you.
1/17/21, 7:42 PM - [Allied]: Looks like it's a bug. However, if the Italian unit is stacked with a German unit it will be included in the combat. So I think we can workaround this bug if it comes into play.
1/17/21, 7:42 PM - [Allied]: Anyway, that's definitely it for me for the night.
1/17/21, 8:12 PM - [Allied]: Ok. I know exactly how we can handle even if the Italian unit isn't stack with a German. (1) Edit the game file and move any German unit into the hex, (2) declare the LC, (3) saved and edit the file to move the German unit back and (4) carry out the LC. Maybe not the most elegant of solutions but works like a charm.
1/18/21, 2:50 AM - [Axis]: That's a cool solution

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Axis #10.

1/18/21, 2:53 AM - [Axis]: Land actions across the board. Japan played an O-chit to reorganize all HQs to prevent your Chinese communist infantry from overrunning half the Japanese air force in China.

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Axis #10. (Concluded).

1/18/21, 4:20 AM - [Axis]: Note converted to retreat so everything perishes
1/18/21, 4:26 AM - [Axis]: turn continues
1/18/21, 4:26 AM - [Axis]: <Media omitted>
1/18/21, 4:26 AM - [Axis]: back to u
1/18/21, 8:38 AM - [Allied]: Morning.
1/18/21, 8:38 AM - [Axis]: Good morning
1/18/21, 8:38 AM - [Allied]: FYI, "Note converted to retreat so everything perishes" ... if retreat not possible then shatter will also result in all units being destroyed.
1/18/21, 8:38 AM - [Axis]: Oh, I didn't know
1/18/21, 8:39 AM - [Allied]: Don't have to force a retreat
1/18/21, 8:39 AM - [Axis]: Thanks for letting me know
1/18/21, 8:39 AM - [Allied]: So if you're not sure go ahead and take a shatter and if no retreat is possible all units destroyed.
1/18/21, 8:40 AM - [Allied]: German mech is racing for that oil in Bayonne! Hate giving you that one in Paris. At the end of last turn thought I'd be able to hold Paris for 1 more turn. Serious miscalculation there. :(
1/18/21, 8:41 AM - [Axis]: At the start of July/August that looked like a safe bet
1/18/21, 8:42 AM - [Axis]: I didn't expect to take it during this turn either
1/18/21, 8:42 AM - [Axis]: Was fortunate turn went long
1/18/21, 8:42 AM - [Allied]: Also, thought I had you at Tungkwan. That is, very good chance to overrun the Japanese planes. Nice move by playing an O-chit.
1/18/21, 8:43 AM - [Axis]: Yes, you made a good move them exposing my blunder
1/18/21, 8:43 AM - [Axis]: I couldn't rail anything in there and could not take the chance of losing those planes
1/18/21, 8:44 AM - [Allied]: If the turn continued, which it did, I thought I had you, dang it! Playing an O-chit to reorg your HQ's never occurred to me.
1/18/21, 8:44 AM - [Allied]: Nice save.
1/18/21, 8:44 AM - [Axis]: Well I certainly didn't want to!
1/18/21, 8:45 AM - [Allied]: The only upside for the allies and it's likely won't be enough is that the axis have played all three of their O-chits.
1/18/21, 8:45 AM - [Axis]: I will probably have to build one now since Japan needs one desperately on it's war declaration against USA and Commonwealth
1/18/21, 8:46 AM - [Allied]: What! Japan's looking to start a war with the US and CW!
1/18/21, 8:46 AM - [Axis]: Yea. Your defense of Belgium was very good. The weather turned bad after one turn of good weather in March and April and never came back. So I had to use one just to take Belgium, which is a win for the Allies
1/18/21, 8:47 AM - [Axis]: Oh, crap ...a blabbermouth envoy gave it away
1/18/21, 8:47 AM - [Allied]: 😀
1/18/21, 8:49 AM - [Allied]: Shower and then breakfast. Will get to my impulse after that. It'll be a fast one. Not much to do.
1/18/21, 8:49 AM - [Allied]: By the way, time for the BEF, or what's left of it, to get the heck out of France.
1/18/21, 8:50 AM - [Axis]: I was pissed my artillery gunners couldn't hit anything!
1/18/21, 8:50 AM - [Allied]: Gort, mech corps and FTR2 were most fortunate that your artillery ground strike missed them all!
1/18/21, 8:50 AM - [Allied]: I got very lucky on that one.
1/18/21, 8:50 AM - [Allied]: Only a 21.6% chance that the 4 factor artillery would miss all three!
1/18/21, 8:53 AM - [Allied]: I really need the turn to end ... 50/50 (coin flip) that it will. If it doesn't then Germany's going to scraf up another oil and the CCP is going to lose Yenan!
1/18/21, 8:55 AM - [Allied]: Are all your games this eventful this early?
1/18/21, 8:55 AM - [Allied]: Anyway, shower time.
1/18/21, 9:00 AM - [Axis]: No. I usually allow the claim on Besserabia which takes the game into quieter channels. You have exposed the downside of that decision nicely but I do think it has it's virtues so wanted to try it. In the end, I'm not sure it's worth all that lost oil. But it does get rid of 2 ( most likely ) US entry chits and limits USSR's strategic options in the first year of the war. It doesn't allow them to build up against Japan and it makes it difficult for them to take Persia and claim the Finnish border lands

Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #11.

1/18/21, 10:15 AM - [Allied]: Turn 6. Jul/Aug 1940. Allied #11. CW - combine, France - land, China - land, USSR - combine, USA - pass.
1/18/21, 10:30 AM - [Allied]: <Media omitted>
1/18/21, 10:31 AM - [Allied]: BEF & RAF evacuated from France. All that's left on the continent is the Glasgow MIL & XLV gar holding onto Antwerp.
1/18/21, 10:31 AM - [Allied]: Ok. It's the critical end of turn check. Turn ends on a 5 or less.
1/18/21, 10:33 AM - [Allied]: d10=9, turn continues.
1/18/21, 10:33 AM - [Axis]: roger
1/18/21, 10:34 AM - [Allied]: <Media omitted>
1/18/21, 10:34 AM - [Allied]: back to you, axis impulse 12.
1/18/21, 10:36 AM - [Allied]: Well, I'm glad I didn't pass across the board in order to get an end of turn.
1/18/21, 10:36 AM - [Axis]: Yea
1/18/21, 10:37 AM - [Allied]: Can't control the weather. Can't control end of turn. Can only control what I can control.
1/18/21, 10:38 AM - [Allied]: Really don't like the French "giving" Germany 2 saved oil.
1/18/21, 10:42 AM - [Axis]: I understand. But it's more tough luck than anything. Turn went long and no bad luck for Germans
1/18/21, 10:44 AM - [Allied]: 15.1% chance of running this long. Just a tad less than rolling a 5 in AH's 3rd Reich on a 1:1 attack. And I've done that enough times in the past.
1/18/21, 10:45 AM - [Allied]: Again, that's what I love about (M)WiF. The odds are calculable for all "random" events. It's up to each player to decide how to work with those odds.
1/18/21, 10:46 AM - [Allied]: Though an event may be 99% in your favor, there's still 1 out of 100 times it won't work out.
1/18/21, 10:46 AM - [Axis]: Yes, exactly. I've played some great technicians. Guys who are really good. But they don't understand that part of the game.
1/18/21, 10:46 AM - [Axis]: And they will make crazy decisions because they are afraid of the dice
1/18/21, 10:46 AM - [Allied]: I play more by probability and gut than "bean counting".
1/18/21, 10:47 AM - [Allied]: There's a saying that if you can't handle the worse case don't take the risk.
1/18/21, 10:48 AM - [Allied]: For example, if losing 3 units on an assault is a possibility and would be a disaster, then don't make the attack even if there's only a 1 or 2% chance of a 14.
1/18/21, 10:49 AM - [Allied]: On the other side if you could handle the obvious hurt of losing 3 but the reward is great then I'd make that attack even if there was a 10 or 20% chance of losing 3.
1/18/21, 10:49 AM - [Axis]: Same here.

1/18/21, 10:56 AM - [Axis]: Land actions for Japan and Germany. Combined for Italy
1/18/21, 10:56 AM - [Axis]: Searching Eastern Med
1/18/21, 10:56 AM - [Axis]: No support possible either side
1/18/21, 10:57 AM - [Axis]: miss
1/18/21, 10:57 AM - [Axis]: Will not search West Med

1/18/21, 11:05 AM - [Axis]: Ah yes
1/18/21, 11:05 AM - [Allied]: Germany can restore peace by withdrawing all their forces from France.
1/18/21, 11:06 AM - [Allied]: Or the French will have to unleash Petain on you ...
