Armoured Trains and Counter Artillery

Post by Will952 »

Armoured trains do not appear to provoke counter-battery fire when engaging units which are adjacent to artillery.

So for example a German army has a rocket artillery unit behind it. Russian armoured train approaches, attacks the army, and retreats. The artillery does not fire despite having ample shells.

Thanks Hubert

On the topic of bugs with armoured trains - they don't actually appear to take any damage when attacking. They can be attacked, but when attacking, never take any attritional loss.

Hi

Armoured Trains are set to not receive any damage when attacking because their main armament is artillery housed in armoured turrets, so while they did normally have infantry and light armour aboard too, we opted for making them count as artillery when attacking.

But they may well be vulnerable to enemy attack in the opponent's turn, which should roughly balance things out.

I think that might be worth re-thinking. Given their large amount of action points they can easily move - fire - retreat and I've encountered (and myself played with) quite a few 13 strength armoured trains. The lack of any counter-attack is pretty annoying and lets them build up experience quite absurdly quickly unlike other units which are constantly being attritioned.

One option would perhaps be to limit their experience gains to 1, as that requires no engine changes and prevents them becoming too powerful.

That plus allowing for artillery counter-battery would be a good first move I agree
