today's air losses... I'd say that are perfectly acceptable losses for us considering the damage done... the defense of the Marshalls is a success so far even with limited air and no naval assets at all...

the Corsairs took a beating by the Franks which was amazing to see and the losses to our bomber units weren't severe either, guess we haven't lost a dozen crews in the two days... the Grace units will be flown out and replaced by two Judy squadrons and we will now also aim to attack shipping around Kwajalein and Roi Namur as the three USMC fighter units shouldn't be sufficient to stop us from doing so...

Why would he even put a towed tank destroyer battalion on an invasion? They don't shoot on the attack, only the defense. That unit would have been better used in India. Not that he has tried to recapture India properly . . .

I've thought the same, don't know. No use at all on the offense. But that is the least problem for that invasion.

If you put some LRCAP over the island, they should be there when otherwise unescorted bombers show up.

But a damned good showing again![&o]

as already stated we swapped out the Grace units with Judies to attack shipping within the Marshalls, even at the enemy bases of Kwajalein and Roi Namur which is the only base having fighters according to recon... the first strike goes directly towards Roi Namur and our incoming strike is met by only 17 Corsairs as they suffered some losses already the previous days... we also had 100 Franks ordered to sweep, they don't show up of course... why should they?

expected more Franks escorting this strike, wonder where the rest was... the Franks didn't do all that well in downing enemy fighters this time as they only achieved damaging hits which results in a 3:1 kill rate for the Corsairs, still quite okay as the Corsairs had no chance to get through to the Judies which then hit a convoy unloading at Roi Namur...

while I wondered during the attack on Roi Namur where the rest of my bombers was going we see them with two dozen fighters attacking mostly crappy small freighters East of Maloelap... that looks like a small convoy of supplies for the stranded US Army units on my atoll...

the feature of the air routine to have each and every time a fragment lost per sweeping unit this time decided to send in the two fragments before the main strike, usually they come in last... have commented on that idiotic behaviour often enough... in this case the Franks pay hard for it, all 7 are shot down over the target, the Corsairs had the dive from the first until the last second of the engagement, not a single shot was fired at the Corsairs...

CAP engaged:
VMF-323 with F4U-1A Corsair (2 airborne, 4 on standby, 3 scrambling)

then the first "main part" of the Franks comes in, again the Corsairs having endless dives, totally shooting up the Franks... WTF? So funny when I always here "it's all in the combat report"... well, the raid is detected 4 minutes out, the Corsairs are set at 10-15000ft and all of them manage to get above 31000ft in 4 minutes to get the never ending dive? Another 8 Franks were downed for not a single Corsair damaged... makes it 15:0 for the Corsairs at this stage... dive, fixed...

and to top this turn's air routine loop we see the last main part of a Sentai coming in, same result as above... the Corsairs teleport up, have the never ending dive until they run out of fuel, ammo or have some technical breakdown and completely shoot up more of the Franks...

the end result of the so well working air routine is a 21:1 A2A kill rate of the 3:1 outnumbered Corsairs against my best available Frank units... the same Franks that shot up USN carrier based Corsairs and Hellcats at a same idiotic, totally loopsided kill rate earlier... the same Franks on ESCORT that shot up these same Corsairs when they were trying to defend the Allied convoy at Maloelap just days ago... the same Franks that "only" lost 3:1 when escorting bombers against these same Corsairs... yet with the always been the same idiotic (no, fixed) never ending, ridicoulos dive the Corsairs get a 21:1 kill rate against strato sweeping Franks... APPLAUSE...

total result was 25 Franks lost today, 18 pilots are killed or MIA... these Frank units are like a flying circus, high enough EXP to be sent into Training Command, average air skill around 75 and def 70+... losing 21:1 on a sweep... [8|] call it a loop, call it the uggly face of the air routine, it's as bullocks as the result where these Franks shot down carrier based Corsairs and Hellcats at the same ridicoulos kill rate...

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Jul 09, 44
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Japanese Ships
APD Numakaze, Bomb hits 3, heavy fires, heavy damage
APD Nadakaze

really love the flaws of the game... fast transport has been bugged since release (yet it always has been), knowing that I check every damn fast transport TF more often than I would check my carrier TFs before a major fleet engagement, so I also did last turn which was the turn the TF took position FOUR hexes South West of Mili... so how did the TF look like? Full ops points, ample fuel, no damage, ordered to move four (out of 8 possible) hexes to Mili within the whole day, unload and move out again...

what happens due to the flawed routine??? The TF moves FOUR hexes (out of 8 possible during the night), DOESN'T unload and just stays at Mili... and to make the flawed idiocy worse, the enemy of course launches strikes in good weather against my task force and has no problem to hit the agile APDs... I had ships at Mili earlier but they were never attacked so CAP was moved out again to save supplies, clearly MY fault then as I know how fast transport "works"... [8|]

Mine Tarawa and see if that helps along with an ASW TF set to coastal only..

I never had a problem with Fast Transport TFs.

If he is parking subs in a port, then it is time to visit with aircraft - even at night if you have to. Fly in at 1k feet with the load set to "Torpedo" and the Bettys/Nells will carry the full bomb load. Put some mines there as well.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are missing! :o

Tarawa got mines and the sub is at max detection.

That sub should be hiding, returning to base, or sunk!

They will. I've had a lot of these over the years. Cannot explain them in terms of understanding what causes it, but they do happen. They will collapse, and your troops will end up with silly exp from it. But the grind day after day .... yeah, not a lot of fun for either side actually.

Poona took three months and in the end the enemy will have lost 2000av, guess around 100,000 troops, some two dozen units. The pocket near Jessore is even worse, losing over 500,000 troops in total during the Calcutta operation, some 150 units. Especially the Calcutta operation is still absolutely amazing me, it results in a total Allied disaster because an Army three times as big as the one invading Normandy couldn't break through at Calcutta, urban hex, lvl. 9 forts and only a couple of IJA divisions plus support. When they reached level 6 forts it was game over for them and with super KB (1300 carrier based ac at that time IIRC) operating in the Indian Ocean the enemy had no chance to supply his troops or evacuate them.

Points for ground losses at the moment are over 43,000 already and I think we will have total superiority on the ground after clearing the pockets in India. No idea how the Allied should ever take any bigger islands when I have 10,000 av in reserve to react. Until the Soviets activate we can oppose any Allied land Army anywhere on the map.

Of course, you probably could take out the Soviets after India is cleared.

Just keep the Allies out of 4E range of the Home Islands.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

To be honest, I was even thinking of this. A success there too would be crazy, I could muster some 20,000 av for the attack. But a defeat, a stall or a prolonged battle starting in early 45 with over a thousand available 4Es next to Japan really make me think twice about it. Taking out the Soviets would be winning the war and I'm not talking about winning on points as autovictory kicked in already but making it impossible for the Allied to advance due to the sheer number of Japanese troops available for the defense.

What will keep me from attacking is the fact that literally every base that has some Soviet troops must be at level 9 forts and we all saw what level 9 forts plus good terrain can do to an Army one would think it would be unstoppable -> Calcutta...
