[Fixed] Crashing JASSM & JASSM-ER

Post by Tecmeister »

Hey Folks,

I saw the thread about crashing missiles and the reply that they were shot down. Been playing a home made scenario that I've saved many times as I've played it over the course of a several weekends. I wiped out all the SAM's (verified in God's Eye) but the missiles kept falling out of the sky.

Today's play saw 96 of 96 JASSM penetrators crash into the ground or detonate miles from target. Also, B-1's from the west (northwest?) of the JASSM's were hauling JASSM-ER's, and they stared crashing.

I must have played this scenario 5 or 6 weekends in a row to get to this point and didn't have an issue with any JASSM, JASSM-ER, or LRASM to this point. Seems like an issue with saves, but I'm not a Dev. You people do wonderful work. [&o]

Attached the save after seeing the first few JASSM's crash after that, the rest did, and then the second attack with JASSM-ER's started to go south.

Please take a look at the attachment,

Thanks,

Tecmeister

You very much misread that thread. No one definitively said they were shot down. We were waiting on a save because we couldn't reproduce it.

Was this on the latest beta, 1147.16?

OK, did a little digging on the scenario. I played it through from the mass of missiles in the air to hits on the target.

I went through the messages to see what it said. Nothing listed.

I then went through the text log. Nothing stood out.

I then imported the text file to excel. I sorted out anything that has nothing to do with the AGMs. I sorted them by unit #. The AGMs go from 8777 to 8876.

I looked to see if any were missing in the log list of weapons impacting. There are a few. One of them is #8782. So I focused on trying to find that AGM. Couldn't find it anywhere. I thought maybe I had found proof that my eye couldn't see.

So I looked everywhere for #8782. Nothing. So then I restarted your save. #8782 isn't in any of the original launches that are in the save. There are maybe a half dozen AGMs missing that seem like they should be there but aren't.

I have included two CSV files. One with the full log of my run through parsed out and one with just the AGM weapon messages. So you can see what I see. Not sure where those missiles are, but they weren't in the game at the point of the save. They might not have existed, I don't know.

And just to show that the missiles made almost all the way to the target with no issues from what I can see.

Hi Tecmeister,

This is a bit of a puzzler.

Can you tell us what is your OS locale? US-English, UK-English, French, something else?

Thanks.

I did notice this on my last run through. I think its a message left over from your start of the attack.

So the AGMs I missed appear to ahve hit the ground within 10 seconds of launch.

Dimitris, I'm running Windows 10 ver. 20H2, OS build 19042.746. 32GB RAM and a Ryzen 5 1600 6-core processor. US English, also, and CMO version 1.02.114714. I haven't installed any of the recent Beta's, I don't get enough time to play and don't want to spend time testing. The folks that do are an amazing help, my hat is off to them.

Why I find this interesting and a potential save issue is it's a home made scenario I've played on and off several times over the past 5 or more years, and it never happened before. After the first few missiles crashed, I paused and saved because I remember reading the thread about missiles crashing. You know, 1+1 may equal 2. Or 3 or 4, for that matter, it was just a connection I made, not a determination. Let me know if you need any further info, be glad to supply it.

Thewood1, lighten up. You come across as defensive and aggressive. I merely reported an issue I've never had before and mentioned the other thread as a possible link, but at no time did I suggest they were connected. As mentioned above, I've played this multiple times and it has never been an issue. Trust me, I was surprised and concerned as I watched all 96 missiles crash and then a second load start to do the same from different aircraft. If I get the chance, I'll re-run the save and see if it happens again. The log noted that about two thirds were listed as having crashed into the ground while the rest were listed as "detonated x.xx miles from target". If it happens again, I'll send screenshots of all the red dots where the missiles crashed and the log.

To you both, I don't know if this is a problem or a glitch, but I know the Dev's work hard to produce a quality product and wanted to bring it to your attention.

Thanks,

Tecmeister

"I saw the thread about crashing missiles and the reply that they were shot down."

Just saying read a little more carefully. It was mentioned as one of the possibilities and the OP came back and said he checked and it was confirmed. Saying something like that makes it look we are just dismissing the OP. If you can't be arsed to actually read the thread and correctly interpret it, don't bother bringing that reference in here to confuse everything. I'm not trying to be aggressive or in you face about it. Just rebutting some bad information.

To the original point, I suspect it's somehow tied to saves of earlier versions and whatever the issue was in 14 is gone in 16. btw, the betas are not just for testing. The devs put them out because there typically specific issues they are addressing and trying to get in the hands of the players.

Playing at full time compression has a tendency to do that to cruise missiles when they hit rough terrain.

Sounds like there is an attitude adjustment that isn't happening somewhere. Have you captured this in one of your videos at any point? If not, I'll see if I can replicate it over the week. If you've already got one somewhere post so it can get fixed!

Thanks!

Just ran DoNE in 147.16 at fastest accel. with 32 CALCMs at a radar station. No crashes. So not definitively time compression.

I launched near some mountains and watched the CALCMs do its terrain following thing with no crashes. I did this in 1147.16. I'd interested to see if you (the OP) can load this save in .16 and see what happens. Its just four B-52s and the missiles have been in the air a while. I did this on fastest acceleration.

I have let it play through and it seems to work properly.

JASSMs and JASSM-ERs are more vulnerable to this since they fly lower to the ground. I've had more problems with them than with Tomahawks and CALCMs.

Yeah, this went to the wrong thread. I meant to put it into the CALCM thread.

Ok run this test scenario at the fastest speed and the 15 seconds. My experience is the fastest run speed you'll get weapon overshot messages under weapons logic and none at a 15-second speed setting. Something is definitely up.

Test scenario attached. Autofire at Targetsville and run at full-speed and 15 seconds I'll post my screenshots below. If you want a vid let me know and I'll make it happen.

Thanks!

Is that the same issue as the crashes? I'm asking because not sure its the same as the OP was having his missiles crashing.
