One of my first - Lt Titan - Sparrowhawk
Let me know what you think. I made this one for my mechanic w/ Energy weapons skill after he made Green rank. I wanted something that had a fast firing rate with decent damage per shot.
Also, in what folder should I put other ppl's xch files that I download from here?

There's an exchange folder, from which you can import/export files. Just place it there and use the import function to incorporate the Titan into your database. Also, in what folder should I put other ppl's xch files that I download from here?
As for the design: How well does it handle the heat it generates? Three PL's generate an awful lot of heat when firing repeatingly, IIRC.

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

You put the downloaded exchange files in the folder: ToS:WS/Data/Exchange just replace the current 'number'.xch file then go into the factory and import from the corresponding wieght class.
btw.. If you haven't already I'd suggest downloading the 'unoffical titan database'.. just make sure you export any original designs first so that after you replace the 'number'.tos files of the update database you can go back and import the original designs you just exported.

It handles the heat really well. I can keep those PLs going repeatedly for a very long time. I made sure I had good heat reduction first and foremost - hence all the Millenia armor and lvl7 heater.Silvermane wrote: As for the design: How well does it handle the heat it generates? Where is it located SD? I checked that thread, but didn't notice an attachment or link. Was I being blind?Sleeping Dragon wrote: btw.. If you haven't already I'd suggest downloading the 'unoffical titan database'..

Sparrowhawk don't look bad at all for a 1st design... engine and heat regs are... within reason, considering it's a light. I haven't played it yet, but the heat does look like it will buildup, but not too fast. On the design the armor on the LoT and CBT shouldn't be Millinia, The heat factors for armor only appy to locations that have heat reg internal located in them. Millinia should ONLY be used over heat regs, else there is always a better choice. In the Sparrowhawk it will be Vincinium.
The other thing I noticed and it can be debated is the chassis. If this design is created in the factory and not a singular rebuilt titan over a captured titan (I noticed it was a squad titan since it had a jock) then You may consider using a lighter chassis. for a green jock I'd try to squeeze it on to a L1 instead of a L3 since this will give you a +5% handling mod. This will also free up a nice chunk of wieght, BUT your going to end up with 2AP less in the head (chassis restriction), less internal structure, and 'maybe' less APs in the CT (see below). I rebuilt it on the L1 chassis to see what it looked like and used the freed up wieght to raise the heat regs from HR7 to HR8 and played around with the armor and electronics placement a bit, take a look and see what you think. I could just as easily left the heat regs at HR7 and used the 2 1/2 tons on electronics and thicker armor... your call on that one.

As far as light energy titans go... try the Penetrator if you want something with a little more range, but still packing a decent sized punch. It's my favorite... but I'm biased :p

Cool SD
I didn't know that about the heat regulators - that'll help. I like the spiffed up version you did.
I'm not so big on range since you can usually stay in cover and get fairly close. I think the only reason I took the L3 was for the slightly better speed. I didn't want titans with close combat weapons catching up to me when I turn the torso and run in circles around them while shooting. The Pulse Lasers caught my eye for this because they don't seem to suffer penalties quite as much for movement. (not sure about it tho). I guess 2 seconds isn't that much of a difference anyway though.
I'll make those changes, maybe some more and put up another xch file for it.

Be careful though.. Larkin's AI isn't as stupid as most, it WILL try to light your cover on fire.... At higher levels I usually stay away from burnable cover in assaults... dang AI will light them up and it takes FOREVER to get an assault out of burning dense woods... and with my luck the shot right after setting the woods on fire usually heavily damages my heat regs and/or makes me fall down:rolleyes::DNefariousKoel wrote: I'm not so big on range since you can usually stay in cover and get fairly close.
As far as PLs go, they have a +0% mod compared to the -5% mod of the 'vanilla' lasers, but they actually have a worse 'target speed' mod then the lasers. (-target speed/5 compared to -target speed/8) so they almost cancel out in certian situations.. then there's the whole weapon maximum range thing... but 8 damage is really nice..... bottom line....... close up I like the PL too

Oh yeah. I learned the hard way about an inferno of a forest goin' up around me.
Here's the updated SparrowHawk - I think it's basically just like yours, except I moved 1 pt of armor from the LowT to the CBT. When I'm running around like crazy I don't like gettin' shot in the back.

Oh, yes. I've been much impressed by the AI in this game. Had one situation where I'd located an enemy Titan about 9 hexes on the other side of a dense woods I'd entered (this was either a mission or campaign map, not sure which). I didn't think the enemy Titan had spotted me yet, so I decided to go for some cheap OXPs. I crouched my Titan, linked everyone else in the squad to him, and had everyone but him start actively scanning the enemy (I didn't Active Scan with the spotter so his hide modifier wouldn't jump). The enemy kept bouncing back and forth between the same 3 hexes, which puzzled me... until another Titan suddenly appeared in the heavy woods one hex to my left and lit me up like a bonfire. Spent the rest of that skirmish trying to dig the hook out of my mouth.Sleeping_Dragon wrote:Larkin's AI isn't as stupid as most

My favorite thing I've seen the AI do so far is a situation where I have good line of site and the AI comes into sight with like 3 short/mid-range titans at long range... cool I can give them a long range beatdown with my GMH titan and a handfull of other long range weapons.. I get like 1 round of shots off with the GMHs and the blasted AI starts laying down a smoke screen until it moves like 3 hexes into a forest where I lose sight of them... I got a few shots off inbetween the smoke, but NOTHING like I was hoping. They finally reappeared like 4-5 hexes away packing a Bonecrusher, a Needler, and something with a BRG. It was ugly.. I had to eject 2 of my jocks from AC20s shots to the head before the Needler and the other titan finished them off. Luckily I had tripped up and shot the leg off a stray heavy earlier... if it had been with them, I'd have either died or had to ejected my whole squad.widowmaker wrote:Oh, yes. EMP to the HR... Now that really sounds like my luck... heheheheOr even worse, they hit your HR with an EMP. That royally sucks.

In the latest version of the Sparrowhawk you have a extra mm of armor in the legs and head that don't add anything other then wieght. Pull 1 mm off of these locations and add it to the CT where it will give you 1 additional AP there.

Had that happen to me in a random battle. I had just unloaded everything on a downed Titan in the same hex, when another enemy tagged me with the EMP. My heat was YELLOW, and I had ammo. Sheer, blind luck that I had set the map up as polar, else I would have done the internal fireworks show. I didn't think that thing would ever come back online.Sleeping_Dragon wrote:EMP to the HR...
